Social Security Administration Reports & Reviews (951)

- Augusta, IL, USA

I receive at least one phone call every day from someone claiming to be from the Social Security Administration saying that there is a problem with my wife's social security number and they want me to give them the number. I refuse to do this because I know it's a scam, but I'm tired of dealing with them. They tell me there will be a problem if she doesn't take care of it. They speak with a foreign accent and won't stop calling. I tell them it's none of their business and hang up on them.

- Abbeville, LA, USA

Said that my SS# had suspicions activity and been compromised and I didn’t call them back they would suspend my SS# and put out an active warrant for my arrest.

- Orlando, FL, USA

I got a robo call and voice mail message saying that they were the Social Security Administration, specially the Federal Crime and Investigation Department. I was told to call back, I did and when a man answered he said that it was the SSA. I told him that I knew it was a scam and not to call back. I got another robo call and voice mail about 20 minutes later.

I received a call and I let it go to voicemail. It was from the Social Security office so I called the number they gave me 866-290-0815. A man answered the phone Social Security and when I tried to talk to him he had very broken English so I hung up on him. I didn't give him a chance to say anything because I couldn't understand him.

I did not have a chance to say "hello", the recording automatically started once I answered. The recording which didn't sound like a "normal/usual" recording stated my social security number was compromised and that I needed to call the number (which it repeated back the number that they were actually calling from) to fix the problem. I knew it was not the social security number because they've had the same number for years so I called the number back to see and after the 3rd try, low and behold someone picked up on the second ring and said "social security office how may I help you?"(I actually laughed really loud) because we all know before you actually speak to someone rather it be the local or 800 number, you MUST go through verification BEFORE speaking to a live person. Not sure if this has affected me any but I do have credit monitoring in place so I'll be alerted and hopefully it doesn't hurt me but I never gave any information out nor did I speak verbally to anyone except for a loud laugh!

Received a call saying that there was a lawsuit against me because of suspicious activity on my social security number and to give the above number a call immediately. I called it back and explained that I was returning the call and the man was foreign with broken English and asked for my name, then wanted to know my date of birth and I got defensive and said how do I know this isn't a scam to get my personal info? And he said "look, I love my job and would not do anything to get my job in trouble so what is your date of birth" and he sounded hateful. So I hung up on him and came to bbb.org to check it out. He was very convincing so I am glad I didn't fall for it. But be very careful out there!!

Within three days I received two phone calls from the same number in North Miami Beach, Florida. The caller left a recorded message that I would face legal action if I did not return the call. Once I did call back; a foreign-sounding male identified himself as a "director of the Social Security Administration". He claimed someone was using my information illegally and I would have to verify my details. I hung up.

I did not listen to anything further than the recorded greeting supposedly from the Social Security Administration. They do not call people, so I hung up and reported the phone number as a scammer.
