Caller Says they are from Social Security office and that if I don’t call them back right away they will send an officer of the law to arrest me. I called them back and they answer phone as “this is officer so and so” with a very heavy foreign accent. I told the person that they are fraudulent and will be reported and they showed no concern on being reported. Please stop these people from scamming us, I am concerned with how many people actually fall for this and are giving out personal info to these scammers. Thank you.

Recording says your social security number has been suspended because of suspicious activity and instructs you to press one to resolve the matter. When you press one, hold music plays briefly, and someone picks up. It was a man on the call I received. I asked for proof that it was the actual Social Security Administration, and he said nothing. I asked him to tell me my social security number, and he hung up.

- Odessa, TX, USA

I received a phone call on my cell phone and the person on the phone stated they were a SSA worker and that my social security number had been placed on a block. The block on my social security was placed due to suspicious fraudulent activity on my social security number. He wanted me to verify my name and social security number. I told him that I wasn’t going to verify no information because I had no proof that this was a legitimate call. Which I know that the SSA does not call asking for people’s information. Then he just hanged up the phone.

Caller indicated that my social security card was used for fraudulent activity and that I could be held responsible for the illegal activity. I was told to call the number. I was pretty sure it was a scam but called anyway. I gave them my name but when they asked for my birthdate, decided to end the call.

I received a call and heard an automated voice say that the call was coming from the social security administration. The automated voice said that there was suspicious activity concerning my social security number and that my social security number was under suspension. The automated voice claimed I had to pay money back to the social security office in order to release the suspension on my

social security number. The automated voice said that if I wanted to know more about my case please press 1. I pressed one and went to a live person who barely spoke English. The man on the other end said "Thank you for calling the Social Security Administration Office, how may I help you?" I said "I don't know, I received a call from this number, why did your office call me?" The manan on the other end said" I didn't call you, you called me." I said "No,your office called me and I heard an automated voice, I listened to the message and was then told to push 1 if I wanted to know more about my case." The man said "No, you called me." I said "What is your name and where are you calling from?" He promptly hung up.

- Amarillo, TX, USA

I received a call from a guy who was asking me questions about my social security number. I didn't confirm what he had.

- Amarillo, TX, USA

The caller claimed I had 4 complaints against my SSN; that i was involved in criminal activity around the world. That identity thieves had opened 24 credit card accounts under my SSN. That if I did not cooperate the SSA would freeze my SSN and seize all of my assets. He wanted to confirm my local banks that i have accounts with. He then claimed the only way to save my current assets was to go to the bank and withdrawal all of my savings in cash and convert it to a Target Gift Card long enough to issue me a new SSN. I could then present the card to my local bank and they could retrieve the cash on the Target Gift Card. If i did not comply with his requests then i would be turned over to the police department and arrested for criminal activity. I finally indicated i would not comply, he got angry and told me good luck, i was on my own in proving i was not involved in criminal activity. Seconds after he hung up i received a call from the Amarillo Police Dept. local non-emergency phone number asking why i would not comply with the SSA and that a warrant would issued for my arrest. I told them to come get me and hung up.
