Geek Squad Imposter/Spoof Reports & Reviews (333)

Hello,

I have been receiving hundreds of emails from the address [email protected] for the last few months.

The emails often appear to be phishing attempts to collect personal information.

The content of the messages are usually different, and the subject changes, but it's always from this address

I contacted Google about the issue to explain how I am trying to deal with the volume of messages from this address.

The following steps have not had any impact on the volume of messages:

*Blocking the address through Gmail

*Creating a Gmail rule to mark each message from this address as read and move to trash.

*Reported phishing through Gmail

*Unsubscribing

I receive 20-50 per day from this address, most go to spam but still require review and deletion.

Google suggested that I submit feedback to the engineering team and send a complaint to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center or IC3.

I contacted Geeksquad /Bestbuy via email as well.

Is there anything that can be done to prevent the spoofed address, volume of spam, and phishing attempts from the Geeksquad domain?

I have interacted with employees of The Geekz claiming to be certified Geek Squad employees. They are scamming people by telling them they have malware and spyware installed on their devices and that installing their software is the only thing that will help. They manipulate and scare people who aren't familiar with technology and convince them to allow the scammers to remotely access their devices, and therefor giving all control over to the scammers. These people are lying and saying they work for real and respected tech companies, and they're lying about people needing antivirus software so they can scare them into spending money.

Email claiming to be from the Geek Squad about a yearly renewal for tech support . To cancel you had to call the number above to speak to them. Amount they requested was $372.79

bogus tech support for geek squad

I never signed up with this scam or give my bank info

I keep getting a bill from The Geek Squad to renew my plan, though I've never had a plan. Last year I went to a store site in Denver to see if they could replace my cell phone screen, and then said no, so I left. They've been trying to get me to buy a plan ever since. I never have. Now they want me to renew a non existent plan.

We received a screen shot via text from a group claiming to be Geek Squad. They indicated that our credit card was charged $399.99 for an annual subscription. We were given a customer ID# and Invoice#. The information indicated that we could cancel the subscription within 24 hours by calling 888-234-4650. I called Best Buy Geek Squad and they were familiar with this fraudulent scam. The person I spoke to indicated the fraudulent site was going to ask for access to my computer. I called 888-234-4650 and provided the Invoice# to the person on the other line. I asked them to verify my customer ID# and the name on the account. They were able to identify the telephone number that I was calling from, but nothing else. After asking the verification questions several times, the person on the other end hung up. This is a total scam. Be careful/

This happen to me 3 years ago and it was all supposed to be resolved and all information of mine was deleted and I didn't want the renewal anymore. Now 3 years later I get the same email from the same people and the phone number listed on everything is no longer in service

They sent me an email about PayPal payment for Geek Drive. I have no clue what this is, but I called my bank. As of today, nothing has gone through my account. I currently dropped my bank information off the account too.

On August 31, 2022 I picked up my laptop from Best Buy Geek Squad. On September 1, 2022 I received an e-mail and an invoice from Geek Squad that my Anti-Virus Security subscription was renewed and updated. And that $349.99 would be automatically deducted from my bank account. I made the mistake of calling the phone number on the e-mail. They said that they would refund me the money and offered to show me the refund. They gave me instructions that I followed and then I realized that they were on my computer downloading files. I had no control of my mouse and I had trouble turning off my computer. Since I keep everything on two external drives, I immediately disconnected them. I immediately drove to my bank (*** Bank) and they said that no money was deducted and I changed my banking password. They said that it wasn't necessary to close my bank account and they would monitor my account. I called Geek Squad and they said it was a scam. I got in my car and drove my laptop to Geek Squad for them to run a diagnostic on my laptop. I feel that this was not done randomly, but that the Geek Squad's security recently got compromised and since I was a recent customer, they got my information.

A repeat bill was sent to me by Geek Squad for an annual fee of $249.88 on Oct 3, 2022. (i remember cancelling this last year.) I called their support number to reverse the charges and they led me gcsupport.live site. As they confirmed the refund that I had requested, which had not yet been charged to our account, they required that I log on to my bank account and click a link that they were sending to approve the refund. My husband looked at our account on his phone and there was no charged or link. They were were insistent that we load our bank account and click the link. They told us they were highly rated with the BBB. We hung up.

They sent an invoice for $460 saying that my subscription to geek squad personnel service would auto renew unless I called them within 48 hrs. I did call them and the phone was answered by a foreigner and never said anything about geek squad.

I called the number on my email became I really thought I had a subscription and just didn’t remember. I called to cancelled because because I didn’t want any funds to come out my account. The scammer said when we’ll get your computer and I’ll walk you through how to cancel the subscription, the website provide was www.811sup.org and then he was able to provide me the link to fill out the ReFund Form…I provided my name, address, phone number, bank name, amount to be refunded, selected checking, and I hit submit. Once hitting the submit button, I received a transaction # GEEKS5698XH, with instructions to log-in to your bank account and accept the transfer. Once I hit submit, he was very persistent that I open a new tab and log on to my bank account. I informed him that I was doing it on my phone and he stated again that the only way I would receive the link is if I do it on my laptop. I never open my account on my laptop…thank GOD!! Well by then I was bothered and realized I had almost been scammed. I blocked the caller on my phone and through email.

I purchased a new laptop the beginning of the year. With my purchase I received a package that provides cleaning from any viruses or hacks. On 9/14/22 I received an email from the Geek Squad who handles these types of things telling my trial period was ended and I had to pay 294.00 if I wanted to continue the service. When I called the number in the email the woman who answered whom I couldn't understand sounded Chinese. I asked her to put some on the phone that could speak English. While I was talking with her she had another man call me. He appeared to be Indian but I could understand him. He told me I needed to a fill out if I was to discontinue my service. He told me we could do it online. I let him have access to my computer to open this format. He then asked for a credit card number I told him you should have all my information. Then he told me you didn't pay with your credit card. He stated that you initially put was on your debit card. He asked me do you do online banking. I yes do, but he never asked me to go into my bank account or for my bank account number or routing numbers. He just wanted me to put in the debit card number, so he could deposit the money into my account. Instead twenty-four hours later he did a wire transfer taking money out using my name. I just want people everywhere to be careful. Since then I seen emails from Norton about computer security. It's ashame, but now I don't trust anybody.

Person called claiming to be Geek Squad and tried to access my phone and get me to come to a nearby Target, so I hung up on them.

I received an email stating $399.99 would be debited from my account in the next 24 hours for renewal. I do not use Geek Squad. The email said I could call the customer care number to cancel if I did not authorize this. The email provided a customer ID # of 2398466879 and an invoice # GE3987EK.

Sent a copy of invoice for $349.00 for a subscription online service.

My daughter texted me a screen shot of Geek support stating to pay them, and invoice had my name on it, and I Never heard of them nor ever needed/received services of that nature.

The email had the name Emily Howard

The email says I have been charged 499.99 for services provided by Geek Squad.

I received an email telling me that I made a purchase that I did not make it lists the phone number I called it. I asked them what card of mine did they put this purchase on they could not give me a card they told me it was my bank card or my savings that's when I knew there was a problem I gave them no information
