Geek squad Support LLC.

I called the number and said to cancel. The person informed me that I needed to log in to cancel the subscription and tried to direct me to a site. I refused and said I believed this to be a scam and would not go to any site, and that he needed to cancel. He said it would not be canceled and hung up.

It was clearly a scam, I have never received any support from this organization. They spoke very poor English and I could hear others in the background talking.

Issue description & tactics used by the scammer:

I received an email from someone named ‘Warold Smith’ on 6/1/22 @ 9:26 am, allegedly representing Best Buy’s ‘Geek Squad’ protection plan, thanking me for placing my order with Geek Services – Best Buy, which was a $480.11 payment for 2-years of Geek Squad Protection Plan services. The email appeared in my inbox as a receipt from Warold Smith with no reference to a Geek Squad website. The email was marked as a receipt. Upon opening the receipt, I found no reference to my name or any other personally identifying information, only that it was sent from Best Buy’s Geek Squad Technical Support. When I opened the email, it requested me to call back at my earliest convenience If I had any questions at 1-803 761-7663 to confirm receipt of this email, which I have not complied.

General Statement::

I would never contact them for any computing issues, as I have a degree & background in Information Technology and perform my own cyber investigation/problem resolution on the IT gear I own.

My Action:

I verified that no funds were debited against my bank account.

Scammer tactics:

This scam appears to be a ‘warm-fraud’ attempt requesting me to call the phone number shown after I opened the email. During this requested phone call, I believe they would attempt to access my banking information via social engineering, no doubt claiming they do not have the necessary access or visibility to make the charge for 2-years Protection Plan to go through. I anticipate being expected to provide personally identifying information during that phone call to facilitate the Protection Plan services debt of $480.11 to be charged to my account. Remember, this is an unsolicited email. I did not contract Geek Squad for any Protection Plan services, nor would I.

5/25/22 Received an email below: (I don't know what they are talking about)

I purchased a Geek Squad subscription thru Best Buy in Nov 2021. It was supposed to be a yearly fee but, I received a Quickbooks invoice by email (looks very legit) saying my yearly fee of $299.99 was due today May 24, 2022 and was going to be drafted from the account I used to make the original purchase. I called the number on the invoice They had me remote them in on my computer (which I did) Then they wanted me to log into my bank account to receive my refund which I thought was very weird. At that point I closed out the remote session and did a hard shut down on my computer. Called Best Buy directly and yes this was a scam. I'm hoping and praying nothing of importance was pulled from my computer.

Email said auto debit with an invoice attachment and stated call the number to refund the charges, when you call they try to get you to log onto your online bank account so they can send you a link to accept the refund. But once you open the email they can access your computer.

I received an email in my spam folder informing me that I would be charged $703.99 for my 5-year renewal for Geek Squad tech support services. The money would be deducted from my back account and I would not need to take any additional action.

The email states that I cannot cancel the service by email and must call this number 866-217-2590. And the email also reads that 'in case you need to cancel the renewal of the Premium Protection Plan and claim your refund of $703.99 just call us at 866-217-2590.

I blocked the sender from contacting me any further.

I received an email from this person/scammer. It said I had signed up for a 5 yr Personal Home Tech package and they were charging my credit card 663.99. I was instructed to call the #. 810 242-6883 if I didn't want this to take place. I called Best Buys to check on this, but after waiting " in line" for 10 min, I was hung up on. I called again and after 12 minutes, same thing. So I got on the ScamPulse.com site and searched this scam and found several others reporting it. I noticed the email address says Trinidad right in the address and when they lived their address as Tulsa OK, they used no capital letters . Also, they used a name on the email to me that has only been used by ATT because they never asked how to spell my name.

Someone using geek squad is charging me $605.99 for a 5 year renew activation that I did not order .

I received a auto-renewal subscription with Norton Geek Squad for $399.74 and that it had already been deducted (which it has not). I have never purchased a computer from Best Buy or ever contacted Geek Squad ever in my life. I knew it was a spam/imposter but someone else might would have called the number given on the email

My husband went on computer and found bill from company calling themselves “Geek Squad”. He called the co. Phone number which was provided. He told them that he did not want or authorize their service. Geek Squad replied that they had already authorized their service and debted our bank account. They said they had already updated my software and then they would return that money that they had debted from my account. They then ask me for my name and an amount of $500 to be placed back into my account from a Chase Bank. I entered 500$ but two more zeros appeared resulting in $5000.00 entering my account. In all, paid them &1000.

Email is addressed to someone other than myself, but someone I know. It’s advising their geek squad account will be renewed unless they call to cancel. That person doesn’t have anything to do with computers.

I received the following email today and am sending it to you for follow-up. (It is also attached as a PDF).

I did not attempt to call the number in the email.

I have never used Geek Squad for any antivirus protection.

Thank you for your assistance.

I received an email by a Geek Squad noting that I will be charged for $677.27 for a purchase. I called the number 650.260.1510 that was on the email. Kept ringing the first time, dropped call the second, someone answered hello the third time. I immediately said they will be reported as fraud and I heard someone say no wait stop. I called my bank as well to make sure nothing was pending or taken out and they mentioned a lot of calls they are receiving is from this Fraudulent Geek Squad.
