They claimed they were renewing a service. I didn’t remember signing up for Greek squad and they said to cancel the service they needed me to download an app so they could access my phone and tell me what to do to cancel the service. They kept trying to get me to access my bank account through Apple Pay and I told them I’m not putting in my bank information. They said then try my debit card. Luckily my back devoted my debit card without calling then. They were able to access my credit cards because the app they were able to see everything. This happened a few hours ago. I don’t see any attempts on my credit cards as of right now. I finally gave up and said I would dispute this with my credit card company because what they were trying to do made no sense and hung up

I was sent an email from Geek Squad saying a bill would renew for the amount of 581.00 tomorrow. It also said, I should contact the number listed to cancel the subscription. When I called it was a foreigner, who asked for an invoice number. I immediately knew it was a scam when he verified an address that I hadn't lived at the time of the invoice. When I told him I was reporting him to the ScamPulse.com he hung up in my face. Do Not Click ON THE Link!! It is a phishing scam!!

Fake notice of Geek Squad tech support renewal annual charge

I received an email notifying me that I would be charged for an annual fee of $349.00 to Geek-Squad . I have no business with Geek-Squad. Nor have I ever asked for the service they were attempting to charge me with. I have notified my bank and the fraud alert program associated with my cards.

This is the text of Email I received.

An email was sent to me from Geek Squad. It says that it charged me $499.99 for a subscription. This was an unsolicited account. Beware.

Received an email stating my subscription renewal had been processed for technical support from Geek Squad. I have no such subscription.

I received an e-mail from an individual claiming to be "Geek Squad". He/ She claimed that my account # was GP21923 and I owed $449.00 on my account and they would debit my credit card for that amount in 72 hrs. and I could call and recoup some of this amount. I used the Geek Squad several years ago at Best Buy in Lafayette, LA and cancelled it after my first year.

I received an e-mail, (my e-mail address is: [email protected]) that states: WE ARE RENEWING IT FOR YOU

I time when I received the above e-mail, I was freaking out, and I knew that I did not have a subscription with Geek Squad because I cancelled it when I purchased my printer in 2020, but then I was panicking and I did not bother to check my credit card first to see if there was any charges in the amount $489.99, so I called the phone number that was provided. I spoke with a live person and it sounds like it was from INDIA. I went along with the conversation and when he ask me if I was using my mobile phone, my answer was NO and he informed me that I need to use my cell phone so that we can continue the conversation while I was driving on the way to the grocery store, because he informed me that he provided me too much credit on my account, instead giving me the credit of $489.99, he said that he accidentally entered $1,489.99 and that I had to go to the grocery store and return the $1,000.00, that's when I hung up.

I contacted my financial institution last night to inform them the scenario and to date they are still working on it. I am not able to log into my account at this time until MALWAREBYTES that I have subscription for virus will be finished.

I got an email from them this morning saying if I didn’t call to cancel my subscription I was going to charged $539.99 for renewal. So of course anyone who see that will call. I called I gave them the invoice number and they had my name and address info. I told him I didn’t know what this was for and wanted to cancel and he said I needed a computer to do so. I told him I didn’t have one and he got mad and started being rude and raised his voice and then I asked for a manager and he hung up.

I received an email stating that my

Geek Squad will expire on

September 24, 2021, today, and that it will be auto renewed for $399.99.

I called the phone number 818-963-9382.

They said I had to login to my computer and download AnyDesk. I was leary already and should not of done that.

I kept saying just cancel the renewal, he said it would be canceled after I take the next steps.

Then he had me go to my notes, on my computer and ask to verify my name address phone number. And $400 the amount of renewal fee. And type it out.

to verify my identity. He told me his name was David Wilson # IWIN2703C97

I fear, because I did that, but then they asked for my bank account to refund me for the whole subscription, I did not give them any bank information. There was nothing to refund, all I was asking was to cancel my renewal. I realized that I was truly being scammed. They said to check my bank account to see the refund that they were sending me. I said I will on another device. They said NO, it has to be on the computer that I downloaded AnyDesk. I said No I am not doing that, this is a scam and then he hung up on me. During the whole conversation, he kept saying he was running out of time and that he had to speak to his supervisor, because I kept questioning him, and saying this is not right. Then since the first person, supposedly David, could not get me to do bank account info, then another person, the supposed Supervisor got on the line to convince me. Oh also he said I sounded so young and asked my age, I told him my age, I was not supposed to do that. This is a huge scam. I am worried cause of the info I did give them.

After the call, I called Best Buy directly to ask about the renewal and that I was just scammed. They said I did not have a renewal. I should of called them first.

Best Buy had me send them the email.

They are going to report this also.

Please Beware.

Eventually the scammer wanted access to my bank account to take my money.

Email received was thanking me for a purchase of software that I did not make. They indicated this was up for renewal and I knew our family didn't purchase it. Also, the email was coming from an individual so it was suspect (Adam Strauss) with a different email address ([email protected]).

Wanted to alert you and others of this suspected fraud. Thanks for your help to investigate and would appreciate you letting me know of the resolution.

I received and email on 9/2/21 stating that an automatic 3 year renewal of a 3 year contract starts on 9/1/21.

I never authorized this 3 years ago.

I called the number and got a person who says I probably forgot paying 3 years ago.

He wanted to have me open google chrome to send me a form.

Thats when I hung up.

Can you please look into this

Thank you

Received an email to call a phone number to cancel a charge. When I called he said to get on my computer to cancel the charge. He then somehow took control of my computer and said he mistakenly deposited $24,000 into

My checking account. He asked me to go to the bank and withdraw that amount and return it to him. When I checked with the bank , he had transferred that amount from another account of mine into the checking account

Making it look like he deposited the money. I would have been out that money had I followed his instructions.

On August 13, 2021, I received an e-mail from what seemed to be Geek Squad ([email protected]) saying that my debit card would be auto debited $399.99 for 3 years of subscription renewal and that if I wanted to cancel then I would have to call 800-471-6568. As someone who has received many scam e-mails before from multiple sources other than Geek Squad, I know not to give in at all. The e-mail I received from so-called Geek Squad seemed different to me primarily because it had my full name printed. Thinking that perhaps I may have previously had or currently have Geek Squad and forgotten about it, I contacted 800-471-6568 that day. A person who claimed to be John Paul and working for Geek Squad refund team answered, had me install Assist Client on my phone and GoToAssist on my laptop for remote access, said that Geek Squad was about to charge me for subscription renewal because they were unaware that I currently use an Apple MacBook Air and had me send an e-mail to [email protected] about this.

John then claimed that I would have $399.99 refunded into my Citibank checking account despite the fact that I had not been charged that amount as part of the process but then he also said that I would need to make wire transfer payments via Zelle to verify this. In order to pass verification, I was asked to make multiple transactions. John next claimed that after passing verification, I would have the $399.99 as well as all of my Zelle payments refunded into my Citibank account. In the midst of the process, Citibank blocked my account because they suspected fraudulent activity - I was asked to contact them to tell them that my Zelle payments were made to my own friends when really I was asked to send them to multiple people only John knew otherwise they could terminate my account. After Citibank unblocked my account, John had me continue with Zelle transfers, claiming that I still had not passed verification. By the time the process was completed, my account balance was very low plus it was evening time on August 13 and so John said that I would not be able to receive my full refund amount later that night due to the time of day but rather on the morning of August 14. In addition, he also instructed me not to log in to my Citibank account until the morning of August 14 otherwise my refund amount could get canceled altogether.

On the morning of August 14, John sent me a so-called Geek Squad Refund Department invoice via e-mail with my billing information, date of activity, total verification amount plus the refund amount from the initial e-mail, with a comment that my total refund would not be reflected on my Citibank account until the afternoon of August 16 simply because Citibank is not open (not true). He also called me to follow up but this time using his primary number 813-670-5662 along with Assist Client for remote access to my phone and told me not to log in to my Citibank account until then again for the same reason he told me not to the first time so I waited until the afternoon of August 16 to log in.

When afternoon of August 16 came, John called me using his primary number and remote access to my phone via Assist Client to see that my Citibank account balance was still very low. He then said to me that the refund could not go through because my remaining balance was too low so he had me deposit however much cash I had readily available only to have me make another Zelle payment to a different person John knows to the point of me having a very low account balance again. I called Citibank to ask whether I needed to have a minimum daily balance in order to receive money from others, in which case they said no but John said that with my specific pending refund, the rules are different.

On the morning of August 17, John asked me again via his primary number whether I had received my money back without engaging in Assist Client access - when I checked my Citibank balance, I noticed that it was still very low. Trying to figure out how much I would need to have minimum in my Citibank account for the total refund to process, he then stated my total refund amount, which ended up significantly higher than my initial refund amount and claimed that I would need to have a minimum of 10% of my total refund in my account. Once I deposited the minimum that day, John had me make another Zelle transaction for verification purposes while having access via Assist Client to the point that my account balance was once again very low before trying to refund my money again. Claiming that that failed once again, he increased my total refund amount again and had me deposit more to then meet 25% of my total refund amount.

On August 18, John had me make 2 more Zelle payments to the point of me having a very low balance again only to tell me on August 19 that the total refund transfer failed again simply because I would need to have $5,000 minimum for the total refund amount (meaning more deposits and Zelle transactions) in order for the total refund to successfully process via Zelle. I called Citibank to inquire about whether there is a minimum from the incoming end to transfer money through Zelle, in which case they said no. I then refused to make any more deposits, wrote to [email protected] about my situation, called Best Buy and Citibank about my situation and blocked John's primary number. Unfortunately, John was still able to reach me using a different number (813-556-3523) to rush me to deposit, which I blocked immediately after ending the call. Then on August 20 in the late morning, John e-mailed me from his personal e-mail address and saying that my total refund would get canceled after 24 hours if I do not deposit and make Zelle transactions to get my total refunded. I blocked his personal e-mail address and [email protected] immediately. Thankfully, I have not heard from John since.

Since August 17, I began to gradually suspect that I may have been scammed but it was not until August 19 when I officially realized that I very likely have been scammed big time and I wish I had treated that initial e-mail the same way I treat other scam e-mails. Generally speaking, John had not been insanely threatening but he had dodged some of my questions, been manipulative and increasingly inconsiderate of my time and boundaries and demanding of my funds over time. He had been telling me not to mention anything associated with this mess to anyone.

Additional: I don't think John is a native English speaker for he speaks English with an accent and does not write English well. I hope that he is in the USA but I am aware that calls with USA phone numbers may not necessarily be coming from the USA. Also, some e-mails coming from him have landed in my spam folder.

Total number of Zelle transactions: 9

Total number of Zelle recipients I was asked to wire money to: 6
