IRS Reports & Reviews (5106)

The caller said that they would be initiating a lawsuit for tax collections and left a forwarding message and my caller I.D.caught a bogus identification and voice message.I understand that the I.R.S. never calls anyone for tax collection purposes.

My 79 year old mother received a message on her home answering machine 2 days in a row, 11/24 and 11/25 saying it was the IRS and someone was filing a lawsuit against her and it was important for her to call them right away. The callback number they gave was 304-461-7725. I told her not to call it and that it was a scam!

want me to pay back tax.

- Horton, AL, USA

The number that called me was 202-446-6927. They claimed to be the IRS. They had said that they had been trying to reach me on several occasions. They said I had a case number. It was DC1928, and the operator number was 18108. Said I owed 2985.00 on back taxes. Wanted payment to keep my case from going into court, and wanted to set-up monthly payments over the phone. The man I spoke with had a VERY thick Mediterranean accent. And I could barely understand anything he was saying. I had to ask him to repeat his self several times, and also had to correct some of his usage of grammar. I looked up the number on 800notes.com while I had him on hold, and two people had reported that it was a scam. I immediately hung the phone up.

I received a robo call just now from 202-602-9801 posing as the IRS saying they were giving me a final notice.

- Staten Island, NY, USA

Received many harassing calls from two different phone numbers . I erased one . It was a 917 area code though , claiming that the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me . Warning me to call them back , in a computerized ladies voice !!!

A man called and said he was the IRS. I owed them money form 2009.

An individual called my home from this phone # (832-287-2320) stating that he was with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and left a message on my answering machine about suing. My sister called the # back and said I wasn't home. My sister inquired what the situation was about. The gentleman stated that the IRS was going to sue my sister.

I knew it was a scam because the IRS will contact you by mail. I tried to call back, and the guy hung up when I asked him how he got my private phone #.

No money or personal information was given.

2nd call today from Joplin stating this is the "very last call you will get about a law suit that the IRS is filing against us." they proceed to say call *** There should be NOTHING that the IRS would want from us so we are NOT calling. just sounds suspicious.

- Syracuse, NY, USA

Called from the IRS foreign voice, knew my name and gave me his badge number real fast. I hung up. Caller ID said Fayetteville NY and the number was 4001469

I received a voicemail stating it was the 3rd time they tried to reach me about a lawsuit filed against me by IRS and to call them back. I know that the IRS does not call without sending a letter. I think it's a scam. My daughter heard something on the news about this too.

- Glennville, GA, USA

I received a phone call from Syracuse, NY 315-750-4356 and the caller said that they represented the IRS and that I was being sued for non payment. I recognized that this was a scam.

- Simi Valley, CA, USA

Someone (female voice) says that the IRS is filing a case against you.

Called consumer and indicated he owed a debt to the IRS.

- Hartselle, AL, USA

Got a call at 9:21AM today. The man said I owed IRS money, and they were going to sue. I told him that my wife works for IRS, he cussed and hung up. They called from 304-461-7725.

- Sun Prairie, WI, USA

Received a voicemail from someone claiming to be with the IRS indicating that an auditor has found an error in my taxes sometime between 2008 and 2014 and unless I paid 4986.00 immediately they would file suit against me for attempting to defraud the government and if I were to allow this to go to court it could result in over $20,000 in fines and jail time. I explained I could not pay that at this time. They indicated that I could pay $1500 today and set up a payment plan for the rest to stop suit. I indicated I could call them back in 2 hours. They stated they would give me one hour and if I didn't call back they would file suit. They stated that they could not be held responsible for what happens to me if I did not call back within one hour to make the payment.

- San Francisco, CA, USA

I received a call which was a recording of a womens voice.  She said the Internal Revenue Service has been trying to get in touch with me.  She implied that I did something wronf and if I wanted more details I should call 832-854 ( I didn't get the last four numbers).  The area code in the phone book shows 832 to be in the Dallas area.

I suspect this is a scam based on numerous reports on TV lately also I know the IRS doesn't phone tax payers they notify taxpayers by mail is anything is found to be wrong with their tax returns.  Last year my tax return resulted in a refund being sent to me hence I'm sure I didn't do anything wrong.

I did not try to phone the 832 number first because I immediately felt it was a scam.  I didn't have the complete number.  The caller did give a complete number but I didn't have a paper or pen handy I just don't remember the last digits.

Phone message stating they are the IRS

- West Hartford, CT, USA

I have been receiving phone calls from people who say they are with the IRS and that there is a criminal case pending against me for tax fraud. One of the callers went so far as to tell me that within 45-60 minutes of terminating the call the police would come to arrest me. I was aware of this scam already. I assume that if I stayed on the phone they would ask me for payment information to cover the supposed taxes I owe, but I haven't continued the conversation long enough to get that far.

They broke down what I owed from 2009-2014. Said a lawsuit has been made and a sheriff was coming today to arrest me. They were going to seize my bank account and revoke my drivers license. Said he was going to put me on hold and put me over to the person handling the lawsuit and if I hung up he couldn't do anything to help me anymore. Put me on hold for 3 or 4 seconds then said that person was busy and he was going to discontinue the lawsuit so that I could do a payment plan. He wanted to know how much I could come up with and he asked for the last 4 of my social. He said I would get a letter Friday or Saturday outlining my payment plan.
