Phishing Call Reports & Reviews (26)

The female caller from 914-293-4816 called and asked if I would participate in a survey and assured me that she would not ask for money. I said that would be OK. She asked if I was talking on a cell phone. In an unguarded moment of stupidity, I answered, "yes." She immediately hung up. I realized that I most likely had just fallen for the yes scam. I called back twice but the recording said both times that the line was busy. The call came on March 28, 2024 at 2:30PM eastern time. I just found this reporting form today. I was not contacted by email so I had to enter a bogus email address in the box above for the scammer since this machine would not let me advance without putting anything in or answering "none."

One of my family member received a phone call, the guy in the phone confirmed my family member's name with her, and she said yes to him. and he said he from Rogers Fido Charlottetown, PE, he want to ask if my family member want to upgrade phone or plan. my family member said no, and they hang up the phone.

I searched online that Rogers will never call their customer for upgrade sales, so I think this is a Scam.

I got an email stating that if I took a brief survey for Dicks' Sporting Goods I would receive a Stanley cup. I took survey and then was directed to a page to pay shipping and handling so I put in info for that including of course cc and address. When finished with that it sent me to a page saying that I was entered into a drawing and signed up for a monthly plan to Fit Gnx. I called the number and spoke with more than one person. they kept asking for my cc number which I would not give them and finally I got a hold of someone who cancelled the charge and gave me a cancellation number. Not one minute after I hung up the phone I got a text message from my bank asking if a charge for $43.94 from the same company I was just talking to was one I used my card for. I texted back no and then called them back. Now they keep hanging up on me and will not talk to me. I usually don't fall for emails like this but one of my good friends works for Dicks' Sporting Goods and I thought she had included me in a survey group. You could tell it was just a bunch of people in a room talking and when I asked what they actually sell the Manager told me they sell gadgets.

I received an email that read my purchase/order was being fulfilled. It came to $327. It listed a number that I could call if I didn’t authorize the purchase. I called and they pretended to be PayPal and said all I had to do to “secure” my personal information was to connect to their server. I asked pointedly if she was a PayPal employee and she said yes. I told her I believed this was a scam and hung up.

8-14-23 2:55PM  Hello ******? I'm so glad I got you!  Appeared to know me!  Friendly like local person. I had fallen asleep in recliner, phone rang, and half asleep I answered without checking the number & caller first. The person first said, ****** I am so glad I was able to reach you! This is ******? I ans. Yes. Then noise, and she asked, Are you still there? I answered, YES, breath pause, I'm still there! Somewhat irritated. There was a short pause, and then a click. I figured at once my name and a yes were recorded. Plus they have my landline phone number. They can easily get address. I was on alert as support person for families of two individuals with terminal cancer--one in hospital on feeding tube. I didn't think this time---asleep, and just grabbed the phone. (At the time, I wondered if it might be a hospital trying to reach me for my friend. ) I am now concerned that they have a recording of "my voice" & a "yes." Esp. with AI they can use that to be able to make up conversation that sounds like me, or they can use my name and a yes to claim I agreed to or ordered something. I NEVER slip. BUT--this time I was tired and worried over my two friends and their families. Both are in and out of hospital & in extreme pain. Both on chemo and not handling it. I just plain didn't think when I answered the phone. I normally never answer a number I do not know. I let unknown callers go to the answer. This time, I was waiting to hear about one of the two friends & hopefully know the family member was handling things alone at the hospital. I was worn out, fell asleep, and just grabbed the phone while half-asleep, answering it before checking to see who was calling or from what number. Thank you!

Callers use robocall to change numbers each time they call.

They always use a # tied to your local area code and when you pick up there is an automated recording stating it is "Verizon" and to call regarding your account.

The # they ask you to call is 1.800.753.8644.

They are calling my work phone and I have called them advising to remove me but have not provided any of my information since it is a scam. I have confirmed with Verizon this is not a person from them calling.
