Suspicious Phone Call Report

I received an unsolicited phone call from an unknown number inquiring about my company's name and location. Recently, I have been experiencing an increased frequency of similar calls where unknown callers request sensitive business information, including:

Landlord contact details

Business owner personal information

Attempts to convince me to "register" with supposed business directories

While I typically terminate such calls immediately, this particular caller managed to initiate a conversation before I could end the call. These repeated solicitations appear to be potential scam attempts designed to gather confidential business information.

Recommended Actions:

Do not provide any personal or business details to unverified callers

Document the phone number and nature of suspicious calls

Consider blocking repeated unknown numbers

Consult with local authorities or a business security advisor if calls persist

I didn’t recognize the number and so I didn’t answer the phone, instead waiting for the voicemail. I, then, received the following message:

“we are calling about your overdue back tax filings this is a notification call about your back tax debt that must be settled before the end of the month we have received a notice that your taxes need to be settled before the end of the month and if you call today we can help you avoid any wage garnishment my phone number is 260-529-3342 I have some good news for you about some extended relief programs that have taken affect that can help you to reduce or possibly completely eliminate your overdue tax debt before you receive a wage garnishment once again Meredith Williams from your rapid tax filings LLC and my number is 260-529-3342 if you would like to opt out of future calls please call back the number on your caller ID…”

I received a call saying the process server was attempting to find my mother at her home (they had her correct name and address) and that I’d better get her to call the law firm with the reference number they provided. I called the number provided 1-844-649-1385 and the person that answered was the same person who called me initially. They were abrupt and demanding, saying that my mother was being sued and rattled off some fake company so quickly I couldn’t understand it. I asked for a website or some way I could verify that the law firm was legitimate and they demanded that my mom call them and hung up.

This "company" has contacted family members and my supervisor. They state that there is "something against me". They even give a reference number to use when contacting them. I refused to confirm any information as I had heard about this type of scam before. They say I will receive documentation in the mail. I spoke with a police officer who informed me that the kind of personal information they have can easily be found on the web and to never confirm anything.
