I do not know what this person was trying to do -- email acted like we purchased plan for $349.99 and charged us. Wanted me to call and get information, I suppose to get credit card number to take off change.

[[BBB TRANSCRIPTION VIA TELEPHONE CALL WITH THE CONSUMER]]

Consumer received 2 emails from "Geek Squad" regarding her account with the business. Customer gave remote access to her computer. She is not a customer of theirs. She inserted $500.00 as the amount, he said come as $5,000.00 and then he would refund the remaining it, correcting the number. The 'Executive Sr. supervisor' James Dawson (who is out of Salt Lake City, UT), employee. He said not to tell anyone about it. She withdrew $5,500 from her bank. Went to the Marathon Gas Station in Ashland, OH. There was a yellow bitcoin machine. She put the money in there and got a receipt. Which then was sent it to the 'business'. She lost $5,500.00.

Consumer called her bank. The bank closed her accounts. She's reporting to us, the OH Attorney General's Office, and the FTC. Consumer tried calling back and getting no response.

I received a bogus invoice pretending to be the Geek Squad regarding my annual Norten supsrciption.

I received an e-mail that appeared to be from Geeksquad (with that company’s logo) stating that my “membership” would be automatically renewed and that the amount of $410 would be debited from my bank account, but didn’t state from which account or financial institution. A telephone number was provided if there were questions or to cancel. When I called, I was told that in order to cancel, I must fill out a cancellation request online, and from a PC or laptop with Windows or MAC. I had a hunch this was a scam, so I told the person on the other end of the line that I did not have access to either, and told him to do whatever he had to do to cancel me. He stated “I’ll see what I can do,” and hung up.

I received an invoice from someone saying they were Geek Squad. The invoice stated that I was renewing a year subscription and that I had been charged the amount of $427.37 and the renewal was set for the same day. Please see below.

Here's email
Photo 1 proof in review #16519634 about Geek Squad

Guy pretendin g to be from Geek Squad sent email giving me to cancel a service charge that I did not order. When I told him he was a scammer and that I was going to report him to the ScamPulse.com he said (in effect) "*******".

Received an email saying that my tech support was being renewed for $299.99. I didn't remember having any tech support with the Geek Squad. I did call the number on the email and talked to someone who knew that I had purchased a computer from Best Buy and that the support package was being renewed. I told him that I didn't want this package and he said that in order to cancel he would need to have access to my computer and when I questioned him about this, he hung up. I then called Best Buy to inquire about this and was told that the "845" number was not their support number and that they don't provide a "Premium Support Package". So this was a scam and if I had agreed to go on my computer with the guy, he probably would've hacked my computer. So, nothing "bad" happened, but I will continue to check my credit card "just in case".

This scammer posed as the Geek Squad and emailed an invoice to renew my subscription to the Geek Squad again. I have never used this service. The invoice amount was $398.79 and it mandated a 48 hour notice to cancel.

This scammer is trying to appear as Best Buy Geek Squad to get funds for a product I did not sign up for. E-mail coming from a Daren Smith and somehow received yet the "To:" is address [email protected]

Got an email from the Geek Squadd (red flag when the name is misspelled!) The email stated my subscription was expiring today and was auto-renewed. It said I had been charged $321.14. In order to cancel, I was to call 15103232651 within 48 hours. Fortunately, when I called, it would not go through. That is when I got suspicious and looked online and found this site. Thank you for helping me avoid being scammed.

I got two emails from with a headline "RENEWED! Service Plan ([a long number]) for ..."

They claim to have renewed the service plans for 3 devices, at a cost of USD $391.99. I am instructed to call +1 (808) 431-5486.

I called, the phone rang about 20 times and a man with a south Asian voice answered. I asked him where he was located and for whom he worked, and he said Salt Lake City, Utah, and when pressed, he said his supervisor was David ... Mike. I asked for a last name, and he said "Mike Budd" or "Bird" or something like that. I pressed him for Mike's phone number, and he gave me 385-666-9994.

The "View As PDF" link was not actually a link (just text).

I sent an email via Best Buy website stating that I wanted to cancel a service plan. Best Buy uses Greek Squad for technical support. I receive an email from Geek squad saying that they had successfully receive and request saying the following:

When I called number, they ensure me that this was not a scam. I give permission for them to log onto my PC and I logged in my Chase account for them to refund the money (stupid) Then they proceed to say they was something wrong with their system and said they had wrongfully transferred $2600 to my account. That's when they are me to go to Walmart (2 $500), Kroger (5 $200) and CVS (1 $500) to get gift cards (Big Red flag). Thinking it was legit I did it and gave them the information on the cards and sent a copy via email ([email protected]). Refund Token email sent:

I was told not to log back in the Chase account for a while. Which I did and that when I found out that they had transferred $2600 (which is all we had) from my saving to my checking and pretended to have credited the wrong amount back. That's when I instructed to go get the gift cards.

Got this message today on my husbands phone...glad we are smart enough to not assume it's real.

"Your subscription from Geek-squad has been renewed amount $189.99 debited invoice no. GCK8555. Invoice date 11 January 2022. Geek squad support +18055214118"

Received email stating a tech support warranty has run out and is being automatically being renewed for $449.00. Charges are being charged to the account on file. Included a serial number and order number along with a breakdown of charges for a 3-year renewal. Email came from a personal gmail account.

We received a text message saying our Geek Squad subscription was renewed and we were charged $189 and some cents. We never opened it but could see that much information in the context part of text. We have not had a Geek Squad subscription in years. I really do not like scammers.
