We renewed our yearly agreement with Geek Squad. We received an email from supposedly Geek Squad stating an amount was deducted from our account and was saying they just deducted it in June. We renewed with Geek Squad around April. The amount didn't match what we paid either. We decided to call the number to see what this was all about and we also wanted to cancel because we were not in need of the service anymore. We asked to cancel and they had us download some kind of software to have the cancellation take place. They also were of India maybe Nigerian decent. And of course had American names. I told my husband that this is not a normal way to cancel something. But we continued until it got to wanting us to download a cancellation form which would give them access to our account. That is where it stopped. This guy got angry when we stopped the process. It was unbelievable. We were concerned because we did download their software but we never gave them any information. So hopefully they can not access anything.

TRYING TO CHARGE ME $249.90 FOR THEIR SERVICE. I TOLD THEM I HAVE NORTON FOR MY PROTECTION. THEY WANTED MY BANKING LOG IN TO REFUND MONEY THAT THEY HAVENT TAKEN OUT OF MY ACCT. CALLED THE BANK AND PUT AN ALERT ON MY ACCOUNT. OF COURSE THEY ARE FROM INDIA

- Seattle, WA, USA

They sent an email to my address thanking me for my business and charging me $399.51 for " Advance Geek Squad Protection". WARNING: I didn't realize at 1st because I had another real email from Geek Squad, but when my daughter and I were checking our account with the actual customer assistance we realized their email had NO Logo and a personal email address; [email protected]. I contacted Bestbuy again and they had me forward the email for investigation.

ON 6/2/21 received email claiming to be Geek Squad with bill saying I owe $299 renewal of Protection360. Never had, wanted, or ordered it. Said to call 855-527-2753 if wanted to cancel. I called "cancel, no prior service". Said they can't help cancel because they can't see when I paid last. Wanted credit card info and I said they claim I had service so they must have my info & account number. Scammer became very unprofessional and completely rude and belligerent. They sent email with supposed pdf attachment of invoice which I refused to open. When I wanted more info on them, they hung up on me. Please be aware there is a lot of similar calls and emails out there with same call back phone number claiming to be Geek Squad. There is as real company by that name but they do not handle business in this manner.

- Rancho Cucamonga, CA, USA

I received an email saying: thank you for your purchase through GeekSquad. This email is to inform you that your annual subscription with GeekSquad is renewed. It shows total invoice amount of $279.50. I know I have a Geek Squad tech support subscription through Best Buy. I called the #831-298-6198 and they were telling that in order to get a refund I need to type all kinds of commands-so I followed and then I was given a code that will lead me to a form-in that form they were asking for the name of my bank (which I gave) and realized later that this is a scam-I told the guy-since I paid by credit card just credit my account-but he wont-he still insisted that I continue-so then I told him I'm not doing it because there is something wrong and he keeps telling not to hang-up (which I did hang-up)

- Dripping Springs, TX, USA

When I called the number on the received email to deny charges, I was coerced to give them control of my computer. They proceeded to delete everything from my desktop and demanded $500.00 to restore it.

I immediately turned off my computer, deleted the app they used to connect to my computer, and disconnected from the router.

I had been working from home, and I could not certify this was not a valid claim associated with my employer.

- Cordova, TN, USA

Geek Sqad sent me a bill through my email. I have never used them. I call them and a man is asking personal information. He ask if he could get access to my computer I said no and hung up. They call back again a lady this time asking the same thing I refused. They call me back the next day the same man I just hung up. Pleas watch out they tried to get my identity.

2nd email received so far, called 800#, man with heavy foreign accent answered on giving his first name.

- Tyler, TX, USA

Received numerous calls from people stating that they were with Geek Squad and that I would be charged a subscription price of $200 if I didn't call them back. I did call them back but then they asked me to get on my computer and visit this website, which I hung up on them.

- Carbondale, IL, USA

Caller wanted $499.00 to continue service for Geek Squad when I asked if he had my account information he told me he could see different names associated with the phone number I was calling from. I told him that he needed to give me more information as I didn't even own a computer.

I received an email stated: Dear Member: "We are hereby to inform to you that $399.99 Is going to be charged within 24 hours for the upcoming auto-renewal of the Network Firewall Security License For 3 years Plan Of your Operating system! So If you want to Continue The Services Then Ignore This Email and If you want To Cancel This License And Claim Your Deposit Back As Refund Then Do Call Our Customer Support."

I called the customer service number and spoke to a supervisor and he told me all things was going on with my computer. I was worried and my computer and let him do the service. After the services, I log into my bank account to pay the services while he was still in my computer.(BIG MISTAKE) .. I didn't feel right about this, I been SCAMMED!

So, I called Microsoft and spoke to an agent and right away she told me this company is known for those types of phishing emails and scams. I immediately called Geeksquad (supervisor) back and he said he will refund back my money. Also, I contacted an computer tech and he told me they did a horrible job to my computer and I had to pay again to correct all the wrong things they did and add a block to my firewall.

I

Many, many phone calls and many hours on phone to date Geek Squad still not providing coherent response as to why refund has not occurred. I have been the victim of Geek Squad incompetency for about 2 months now over a simple Plan cancellation and refund request.

On April 23, 21, they had the nerve to send me another phishing letter: (below) I replied to the email and called spoke to an scammer advised , that I did not authorized any automatic payment and DO NOT WITHDRAWL ANY FUNDS OUT OF MY ACCOUNT and I'm still waiting for my refund of 300.00 you refuse to reimburse. THESE PEOPLE ARE CRAZY. Something need to be done lawfully to this scamming company. I really would love to get my money back!

Example of email PLEASE BE AWARE!!!

"Dear Customer,

You are using automatic payments via online banking as a payment method. With this payment method, you do not have to send transfers manually, but instead, we charge your account when a certain amount is due.

With this e-mail, we would like to inform you that we will perform an automatic payment on 24 April 2021.

The amount will be $399.99 most likely and has been pre-authorized on your banking for geeksquad. accordingly, but this is only the predicted amount. It may change based on cancellations and manual payments. If there are enough funds on your account on that date, the automatic payment will be performed, naturally.

Please ensure that there are sufficient funds on your bank. For any issue call Helpline number : - 1(888)-598-0361.

They asked me to goto the App Store and download a quick support app it showed a name in the top corner! I hung up and called Best Buy they said it was a scam and not to call! Hello Below is a copy and paste of the email I received this morning. I have also included a screenshot in the image upload section.

I called the number a man answered. He did not offer his name. Answered the phone simply as "Geek Squad". To keep the story short I suspected phishing or social engineering right away. I explained that I have never used the service. I asked what Card was charged. He tried to transfer me to a team that "could discuss those details". I told him this seems like a scam and I would report it. Disconnected phone.

This caller from 405-229-2986 left a voice mail which I have on my phone transcribed. He claimed to be from Geek Squad notifying me that they were charging my checking account $399 for an antivirus subscription renewal. I have never used Geek Squad for this type of service, nor given Geek Squad or Best Buy my checking account information. The call came (supposedly) from Oklahoma City, OK (405) 229-2986, and the message said to call (888) 413-8803. I called the number, a man with an Asian-Indian type of accent answered, obviously a call center from background noise, and when confronted, he hung up on me. Though I have no proof, I believe from voice recognition, that this person successfully scammed me several years ago supposedly representing a company called System Mechanics, taking me for about $800 and hacking my computer.

Was sent this email. Almost fell for the scam. called the 1800 number and was getting a vary bland or no responses to my questions from thick Indian accented man. Was convinced to let them gain access to my desktop but figured it out as soon as they started to ask financial questions. Turned off my computer to ensure he/they couldn't go any further.

I received a text message stating that $359.00 would be deducted from my bank account for "continued" Geek Squad computer cleaning services and that to cancel I needed to call the number listed. I purchased a laptop from Best Buy in July, 2020, and thought that perhaps I did request Geek Squad Computer Protection when I bought it. When I called the number to cancel, I was carried through a series of things in which access to my bank information was utilized. A man with a Middle Eastern accent was who I was in conversation with, and I inquired as to why all of this info.

Caller pretended to represent Best Buy Geek Squad. Told me I had a Geek Squad account which was about to expire. I did not recall having an account. Through subterfuge I was convinced to allow access to my computer desktop. They accessed my credit union account and faked a deposit of $4000 dollars which I was told I had to repay. They locked my computer and told me I had to pay $500 to get it unlocked. Once I realized this was all a scam, I hung up and unplugged my computer. I later learned there was no depost into my credit union account. They had copied my credit union account screen and faked a deposit in that amount from Chase Bank. They also convinced me to open a Western Union account to repay the fake $4000. I closed the credit union and Western Union accounts before they achieved access. Close call.

- Huntsville, AL, USA

Sends email thanking me for an order I never ordered. States that my account is debited with 378 USD for the service protection on my laptop. I don't have one. States an invoice Series No:_____. Signed by a Jermaine Walsh.
