Individual called and left me a voicemail saying he needed a dent fixed in his car. He said he would call me back in five minutes. When he called back I answered. He said is this "my company name". I said "mmm-hmm" he said "is this Jeff. I said "mmm-hmm". He then said "do you fix dents" and I said "mmm-hmm" and then he hung up. I think it is the scam trying to get you to say "yes"

- Glenshaw, PA, USA

Call to my cell phone from unknown local number: "This is Josh from Customer Service, can you hear me OK." I replied "What customer service?" "Great," he replied, "You have been pre-approved for a free vacation.." "No," I said and hung up. 11:46 am on 2/10/2017 from above phone number

Got a robe call with an excerpt of an Obama speech, then asking for money to help Obama support the Democrats to stand up to the administration.

- Edgerton, WI, USA

Phone caller asked " can you hear me?". I said yes. He identified himself as customer service, I asked what customer service? And he said "you have won a vacation". I hung up. The call came in when I was on another call. I wasn't thinking or I would have hung up or not answered the phone. Realized what I had said after the fact.

- Denver, CO, USA

It was the "say 'yes' scam." There was silence at the beginning of the call and I did say "yes?". Then this young woman came on and said something like, "Oh, I was having a little trouble with my headset. Giggle." At that point I hung up. I have received this call 3 times, always from a different state. The voice and words have always been the same (sounds live, but they are identical). I have read about this, but I still said yes! My ID information was stolen in the giant data breach at the US Gov't employee database a couple of years ago.

- Sheboygan, WI, USA

I received a phone call from a 262 area code, which is in Wisconsin where I live, so I answered it. A man with a very professional voice said "Hi I'm calling from customer service can you hear me ok?" I said "Yes who is this?" He ignored me and kept talking. He said I won a trip to Florida with all expenses paid and 4 tickets to Disney. I said I wasn't interested. He ignored me and kept talking over me so I hung up on him.

Worst part of this is I read about this "can you hear me" scam all over facebook last week, but when the person asked me the question I never thought of it being a scam. Immediate reaction is of course to say yes. I hope nothing happens from this!!!

- Tulsa, OK, USA

Recorded call purporting to be someone who is having trouble with their headset saying "Hello? Can you hear me?" I suspect it was trying to get me to say "Yes" to record an affirmative response to use maliciously.

I recently filed a help desk ticket with a legitimate company so when I answered my phone the person on the other end said "Hi, this is Josh from customer support. Can you hear me ok?". So I naturally thought it was regarding the help desk ticket I put in. Then he started his spiel about a super vacation deal so I immediately hung up. Can they use my response and bill me because of my response? I hung up right after he started talking about the vacation package.

Grandmother called by granddaughter (actually scammer) saying herself is in jail and her and friend were in a terrible accident and need $4000 for bail money via Best Buy. Grandmother actually went to Best Buy to do it when BB management knew it was a scam and denied the transaction. Police report filed.

- Cuba City, WI, USA

Caller mumbled at the beginning of the call, then asked "Can you hear me?"

Caller says "can you hear me?" then "don't hang up this is an emergency!"

I answered my home phone and the person on the other line said my name and asked if I were her. I said yes and then the caller immediately hung up. I believe it was the scam I heard about that if you say yes they will use that for unauthorized purchases. I was prepared for the question of can you hear me but not prepared to confirm it was me.
