- Rochester, MI, USA

Received a "Can you hear me" call; instinctively answered "Yes". Am calling my bank now.

Over the past few weeks grandfather was contacted by someone from 917-563-2384 and was on the phone for a long time. Today, he was rushed to the hospital due to his diabetes and he would not give up the phone. He kept getting calls and saying "give me my funds." We thought this was odd and after doing some checking it looks like he has given someone most of his money. We found out that my grandfather asked my sister to drive him to the bank and to FedEx and told her not to tell anyone. I got his phone and found the number and called it. When I asked what business this was he said it was the FBI & his name was Jacob Wright. I asked where he was located and he said in Chicago. When I asked for the address he said he would only give me the location when I got into Illinois. I was back at the house when the landline rang and it was the same person, but this time his name was John Green. We are trying to figure out how much was lost and who these people are.

I received one of those "Can you hear me?" phone call scams, in which the scammer tries to get a recording of your voice saying "yes." It showed up as a local number so I answered thinking it might be my accountant. Luckily I heard of this on the news and hung up right away. I saw an article saying I should report this to the BBB.

Caller immediately said "Oh, I was having trouble with my headset"

I did not respond.

Phone call

Asking if I can hear him ok

And then offering vacation.

I received an unsolicited phone call this morning from (904) 515-0433. The voice stated that they were from the warranty department and asked "can you hear me okay?". I answered "yes", then remembered that I'd read about phone scams using this tactic so I instantly hung up. I just wanted to report this as a potential hoax incident.

- Hamilton, OH, USA

I answered the call which had a local area code and the person states "this is 'can't remember name' from customer service, can you hear me ok?" I said "uh huh" and he paused. Then went on with how I've won a Disney vacation.

- Shreveport, LA, USA

Called asked for Social and Date of Birth would not give it to them and they told me they could not tell me who they were without it.

A woman said her name was Emily and had trouble with her head set. When I tried to interupt her I realized it was a recording. Was very sneaky and sounded like a real person on the line.

- Shreveport, LA, USA

They had been trying to get ahold of me with letters that were sent back returned and they needed my address and phone number.

- Omaha, NE, USA

Recorded message informing me of warranty expiration. Prompted me to reply which I did with "yes". The call then immediately disconnected.

I was suspicious and immediately looked online and found that this is a scam.

- Shreveport, LA, USA

They asked can you hear me I replied Yes and they went on to tell me I had won a free. cruise.

- Florence, SC, USA

Number called my personal cell phone, when I answered they said "Hey this is John from Customer service can you hear me?" I responded "yes" it then went on to talk about a Disney Cruise. I realized it was a recording and hung up. I am worried it is a scam that has recorded my voice. This happened moments ago on February 13th 2017

- Howell, MI, USA

Alice with Warranty Company Called and introduced herself and asked if I could hear her and I said yes.

- Reeseville, WI, USA

First thing the person said when I answered the phone was CAN YOU HEAR ME (and it was very loud) so I tried to turn my volume down and of course said "yes" Then the caller went on to say I won a all expense vacation to Disney for two people. I did not say YES again and hung up the phone as the MAN was talking about the vacation. One of the questions below is "did the victim lose money" well, as of right now, since this just happened I didn't lose any money but I don't know if I will in the future for saying Yes initially. I assume had I stayed on the phone longer it would have asked for my credit card/debit card information but I did not stay on the phone long enough so I have no clue if they were going to ask me for money.

Called earlier today asking if I was the person paying the phone bill - I responded "yes" and they hung up - I am worried they will use this information to authorize payments in my name
