Getting bombarded with calls from people that pretend that they're with the social security administration.

- South Vienna, OH, USA

Today is day three of 8-9 calls a day from Social Security. The guy says my Social Security number will be put on lock, and police will come to arrest me. He asked for my Social Security number. I asked him for his. He said he was in Nigeria. I told him you're a scammer. He got angry, and called me names, and cusses me out. Their numbers are: 769-447-4868 and 346-209-5572.

This was a scam that affected my elder mom on Thursday, March 5th. The called her on her cell phone and said that they were from Social Security. They advised her that there was some fraud conducted with her SSN and that her SSN was stolen and used to rent a car in Texas. They then advised her that a murder had taken place with the car and the car was found with blood all over it. They told her that to take care of the problem because they were coming after her the following day that she had to go to the bank and withdraw all of her money. They told her she had to stay with them on the phone as she drove to the bank to withdraw all of her money and then they told her she had to go to Macy's and buy Gift Cards. Sadly, they scared her so badly that she complied and did not think to just hang up and call us (her kids) to see what she should do so that we could stop her.

She went to the bank and proceeded to take out all of her money that she has saved for a long time which is not much but was ALL the money she had - $7,000!!!!! No questions asked by the bank as to why a 74 year old lady would want to withdraw all of her money and gave her the $7,000in cash. The scammers then told her to drive to Macy's and buy gift cards with the money. And sadly, she did this also. And again, no questions asked by the Macy's clerk as to why a 74 year old lady is buying $7,000 worth of gift cards with all CASH! The scammers then made her scratch off all the backs of the cards and text the pictures to them, which she also did :( By the time my mother was done and called me and I immediately knew it was a scam and told her to go back to Macy's and cancel all the cards and get her money back - the cards had all been spent across several states some of which included Bronx, NY and in Texas I believe.

I am still trying to argue with Macys about their policy for first allowing someone to sell a 74 year old lady $7,000 in gift cards with all cash and then also their policy for the use of these cards.... obviously they were bought in California and used within an hour at all different locations in many different states in the hopes that they will realize it was a scam and stop the delivery of the goods purchased with these cards and refund my mom her money!

I also think it's a good idea for the news to air something about this so that others (not just our elders) do not fall for this scam!

A man w/a foreign accent was talking very fast & her social security card had been used in Dallas and had she been to Dallas? She answered "sure" to his questions rather than say "yes". When she said she was going to call the SS office he told her "no, stay on the phone because someone was coming to pick her up for this".

I got a phone call Tracie Lee with Social Security. He said money was stolen in New York and Texas using my Social Security number. He said my number was locked as people stole money off it. He said something about Safeguard Wallet. He asked if I was married. He said he would send somebody today to my house with $10,000 and a new Social Security card. He told me I would be arrested and go to jail for 7 years if I didn't put my money in a SafeGuard Wallet. He told me to go to Walgreens, Walmart and Best Buy. He told me to get $500 on each card. He told me not to talk to anybody, it's supposed to be private. He asked me how much money I had in the bank, and I told him. Then he told me to go to the Credit Union and take out $10,000. My teller did not ask me any questions. Then I bought eBay cards at Walgreens, and Walmart cards, and Best Buy cards at Krogers. None of the clerks asked me anything. I went back to the car, and read the security numbers off the backs of the cards to him. This morning, he called back, and said he needed an additional $5000 to save my money from hackers. I said no, I'm not giving you any more money, and I shouldn't have given you that. He threatened to have the law come after me within 45 minutes to take me to jail. I told him I wasn't giving him any more money. I went back to Homeland Credit Union to put a security number on my account. They said it was a scam. My wife has Alzheimer's. Scammer numbers are: 903-378-8732, 646-930-7707, 915-200-7208, 646-930-7701. The names they used are: Tracie Lee, Gary Anderson, Rose Nelson, and Robert Smith. They had accents.

Social Security Scam

I learned the hard way so when so When they tell you that If you don't comply with them, that the police are coming to your house tell them to go ahead and send them. Under normal circumstances that is what I would have told them. I have had just had surgery I was under a lot of medication and I was not myself. I was scammers took me for over $10,000.00. I wish I could say I got it back but I didn't.

When I realized that this was a scam I stopped I changed my account numbers. And I called And talked a to the police to anybody that would listen to me. Put a lock on my accounts for my so security number and pretty much everything. I'm just even now trying to come back to life I am very cautious with everything that's what it's left me is being cautious. I thought in my life I would never get to this point that I would always know but, they know how All the right wordings to make someone think that they are a victim. So please be very very cautious with all phone calls, that don't seem right.
