We have been getting robo calls threatening us with a "lawsuit that has been filed" and that a "warrant has been issued" for the last year or so. It seems like they are on a cycle of like three weeks, though I can't be certain since I haven't made note. We had been harassed by a collection agency for a non-valid debt and I decided to practice my stress response in those calls, while making the calls very expensive for them. I thought I would do the same though I'm not calling an 800 number, at least the people I'm talking to aren't taking calls while I'm talking to them.

With the latest call, I determined to get as much information as I could and what I found out is;

1. Every person answering the phone has a very heavy Indian accent, so much so that when they have revealed information I wasn't always able to capture it and I called over 20 times on different numbers until they blocked all my numbers;

2. They have very specific information attached to the number where the message was left; name, address, birth date, last four off ssn which if the information I gave didn't match, they told me I committed an offense and a sheriff would be at my address in 30 to 45 minutes

3. This suggests they are computerized and the data they have was obtained in a data breach,

4. They are moderately disciplined, information tied to the last four of ssn's, I would presume the people answering the phone are working on a commission and if the phone number isn't in their database, they will find one that might work

5. The names are generic, like John Smith and very common

6. The "badge numbers" are gs and four digits, ie gs0000

7. There is always background noise like the person answering the phone is in a "boiler room" with lots of people doing the same thing

As with the collection agency that used to harass us, I use these calls to practice my stress response and these calls are stressful. I figure every minute they spend with me is a minute that person can't be scamming another person.

At 9am this morning, I got a call from this scam. They left a message. Basically, "Hi This is Officer *** ***, you're under federal investigation, we audited your taxes, don't disregard this message."

I've been called four times in the last hour. The caller claims I owe money to the IRS, which I do not.

Called saying they were the IRS and were suing me

- Mount Sterling, KY, USA

I received a message to call this person who identified themselves as the IRS. They said that I had an arrest warrant out and that if I called them they would help me. I actually did call the number; it was a foreigner that could barely understand and he argued with me how to pronounce my first name. When I corrected him for the second time he hung up on me.

a message said it was the irs and within 1 hour they were coming to arrest us from our home unless we called this number and paid an over due tax.

this may scare some people into calling that number.

- Columbus, OH, USA

I received a voice mail today from the IRS. He said I owed the IRS and that if I didn't call them at 3153707811, I would go to jail. I called the number. He didn't say how much I owed. I asked who I was talking to and he said IRS, and I said no, it's not, and he hung up.

I received a phone call 954-603-7982 and it was a recording from a phone number in Coral Springs Florida and the recording stated that they were calling on behalf of the IRS and they are going to be issuing a warrant for my arrest within an hour of there phone call and I needed to call them back or I would be arrested

Had a voice mail on my phone stating I had to call with in 24 hours or I would be taken into custody for tax money owed. Wanted me to call them and discuss the matter. I did not fall for it or call that number.

Wanted to fight against a IRS lawsuit

Received a phone call about 30 min. ago. Stating they were from the IRS and had been trying to get us to contact them so we could settle a debit we owed. I called back and told them I knew it was a scam and I was going to report them.

- Arlington, TX, USA

I keep getting calls from this number, although I think its a robo number hacker. I called the number back and the lady who answered said it was the IRS. I asked where the office was based out of and she hung up on me. Funny thing is I have a NC number but have no connections in NC and live in another state. I believe they are hijacking numbers based on area codes and trying to scam people.

- Warren, OH, USA

These people called my cell phone number stating that they were the IRS Internal Revenue Service is exactly what they said with the government and that I had to pay off something in order to keep a warrant from being issued to the courts! When I asked for their address and their information they hung up on me when I called back I was very upset the man on the phone said that he was issuing a warrant for my arrest because I didn't pay my taxes which I know for a fact I do!

- Springfield, MO, USA

this phone number *** called my personal cell claiming to be an IRS tax collector. They said that i had a warrant for my arrest and I needed to pay.... I am in perfect standing with my taxes and the IRS so i know this is a scam.

- Beaumont, TX, USA

Call was a recording, said to be with the IRS, threading arrest if past taxes were not paid. Was then transferred to someone who spoke English as a 5th language. As soon as I said I did not believe them, they cussed at me and hung up.
