I received an email from Grace Coleman, who claims to work as a Paralegal at the Intellectual Property Office of Tressler Consulting Solutions. The email did not go to my spam folder and I do not have a generic business name. The letter claimed to notify me that a Federal trademark application for my business name has been received from the State of Maryland and my business is not currently registered with the Patent & Trademark Office. I looked up Tressler Consulting Solutions via Google and went to the website noticing the same logo and address. The email has a direct line and the website has (844) 212-4686. There were very minor grammatical errors in the email and the website looks very legit but also very basic – like it could be swapped out for any company. There are prices listed and testimonials.

I then called the USPTO and asked if this is typical for a firm to send this type of letter, as I understand you can hire companies to complete a comprehensive search before applying for a trademark. USPTO stated they cannot verify if it is a scam or not but they have been receiving reports for the past year for similar issues/complaints. USPTO stated scammers have even found a way to spoof calls making them look like the calls are coming from the USPTO. USPTO stated companies are using it to force/fear people into paying for their services.

I went back to Google for a closer look and typed the address and phone numbers. The (973) 755-0977 didn’t yield any results but the (844) 212-4686 brought back numerous websites sharing the same phone number.

The other report to the ScamPulse.com I noticed was someone targeted in WA with the 99212 zip code. 99212 is the zip code of my registered agent in Spokane, WA. I’m wondering if they are targeting the registered agents and gaining a list of their clients?

I reported the email as “spam” and did not respond.

I received an email in my company's spam folder from a Tressler Consulting Solutions. They claimed a company in Maryland was trying to register a trademark that would have been identical to my company's name. My company's name is very generic, so it would be hard to secure a trademark for this type of name. I looked into the company, found another website made up with a different phone number and slightly different name (consulting group of Tressler) but the same logo and address. I looked up the address and it is a hotel in Newark NJ. The phone numbers seem to be associated with other trademark related scams.
