I was told I needed to install Telegram on my cell phone as the interview would be conducted on Telegram. Once this was done, I was contacted by a person claiming to be Jared ******** of Tenet Health Care.
The interview was done over Telegram and seemed legitimate and after about 2 hours I was told I had the position. Next, I was told that I would need to purchase several accounting software programs to install on my computer to use in the position. They would send me a check for #$3,000.00 to pay for the programs and they would tell me who to buy them from. I was then then told I would need to be able to receive a check via e-mail and then cash it via check cashing program from my bank on my cell phone. I do not have this option on my cell so was told I would need to get it. This is when I called my bank and was told this was not possible and that this was just a scam.
I went back to the man on telegram and told him what I was told by the bank. He assured me this was not a scam. I told him I would need to verify my employment with Tenet Healthcare, Mr. Jared ******** before I would go any further. He said that was fine and he would contact me the next day at 8AM.
I contacted Mr. Jared ******** via LinkedIn to verify it was him I had been interviewed by. He responded right away saying “No, my apologies but it seems my LI account has been hacked or I am being impersonated. Thanks for checking.”
I then went back to Telegram and told the man not to contact me again and blocked him on Telegram. I also deleted Telegram from my cell.
I could kick myself for falling for this scam. I have tried to be so careful. Beware!!!
