SLD Financial Reports & Reviews (182)

The “company” will txt you asking you to call them for an interview, then schedule your interview. Once in the interview they will tell you that all you have to do is educate people on their finances and get paid. This is not the case. Then, they will try to get $100 for a background check that never happens and schedule you for orientation which gets canceled and they never send out a zoom link for.

I was contacted after submitting my resume to a few companies. The tactics are standard MLM
"Manage 5 people" "we're here to help" "you can get rich."
They're taking advantage of the current pandemic. I'm currently in a meeting with these people as we speak. Its disgusting how they take advantage of the current disparity felt by everyone that's lost their job during covid.

+9

Sorry, I meant to say this opportunity is definitely not for everybody.

I am sorry you feel that we are trying to take advantage of people. This opportunity is definitely for everybody and if anyone asks me about the pay I am very straight forward about it being commission because I really do understand what people are going through. I know what it is like to be on unemployment and barely be able to make ends meet. We try the best we can to offer the opportunity to everyone, because in my opinion it is a good one but at the same time it isn't going to work out for everyone. Throughout the phone call and interview process everyone has the choice to say no. We don't ever try to talk anyone into this.

I talk with the manager and he said hello like it was a residential number instead of business. Please stay clear of him.

SCAM! Same cookie cutter text from “Rosa” and # to call for an Interview. Vague, no straight answers and I don’t have a resume online for them to “find”. The fact alone that they have someone who solely seems to spend all their time rudely responding and attacking those who have legitimate concerns is further proof that this is a SCAM.

+9

I do apologize, you are right, in hindsight the replies were more hurtful than helpful. I hope you will accept my apologies. With regards to your resume, it had to have been on Career Builders otherwise we would have never gotten it. We are authorized by Career Builders to pull resumes. Again, the phone calls are designed to be short so that no one's time is wasted. We always ask if the caller is looking to stay in their same field or are keeping their options open. If they are keeping their options open, normally a brief description of what we do is all that is needed for the caller to decide if they want to go to the overview for a more detailed description of what we do.

Just got a text message. Also Rosa @ SLD, refuses to tell me what the job is regarding. I'm refusing to call back. @Integrity and Airplanedad (who I assume are the same person)... regardless of any of the other bull[censored] you are stating, it's unprofessional to try and rope someone in for a job interview when they won't give details about the position. It's a waste of time for people who are genuinely trying to find jobs that work for them, especially in this economy. I'm glad you are having a good time with the company, but stop harassing others because they don't find SLD's business practices sound.

+4

I certainly do apologize for previous replies. It was definitely not the right approach and I have learned from my mistake. I am not trying to harass anyone, just providing another side of the story, which I assure you will not be aggressive going forward. With regards to details of the job description, when people call we do let them know what we do, yes in basic terms but enough to know whether there is a interest. We try to keep the phone calls brief so that went don't waste your time. If there is an interest you can come to the company overview and get details. If it isn't for you then you don't have to go to the overview. The choice is always yours. If anyone asks what the pay is I always am honest about it being commission because I do know and understand what people are going through right now and I would never want anyone to come on board if their needs are for a steady paycheck now.

I don’t have a degree or job experiences that would be relevant for SLD. So it seemed weird that the company was interested in my resume. I received a text from Rosa and when I called and I asked about the position the lady gave me vague answers and she was eager to schedule a zoom interview. Thank you for this thread.

+6

Actually the reason we don't necessarily look for a financial background is because we want to give everyone the opportunity to succeed. We have excellent training, which is completely necessary when handling people's money. We have people from all different backgrounds who are all taught in the same way, which provides uniformity. Before any agent can make money, they have to get licensed by the state. There is a training course that is very comprehensive and gives the agent the best possible chance to pass the state exam. The reason the answers seemed vague was probably because the main purpose of the phone call is to determine whether or not the person is interested in coming to the company overview/interview. We try not to waste your time or ours. We apologize if it seemed too vague. That is not the intention.

This is an unethical way that the company is trying to recruit new employees. They've told me about a meeting at 9:00 by zoom call. I wasted my time until 9:20 waiting for the host to connect on the zoom call. Yes, Tim Johnson. Do you want to complain about my review? go ahead. It looks like you were paid to answer everybody's reviews. You use the same opinion speech on Facebook.

Yes, I am like the FBI... The company is full of nothing more than wasting people's time, and yes, I still waiting for the "meeting".

+5

No, I don't want to complain about your review. No, I am not being paid to answer everyone's review. I am just trying to give another side of the story. Everyone has the right to make up their own mind about SLD. I know I can't change your minds, but I can at least give people something to think about. I know for a fact that this is not a scam, just a company that does things differently than what people are used to. This is a very highly regulated industry and the licensing requirements include extensive ethics training and continuing education to make sure the business follows government regulations. Is this for everyone, no absolutely not. But just because it isn't doesn't mean it isn't right for some. SLD wants to give everyone the opportunity to have a successful business and that certainly opens them up for people to think this is a scam. To be sure if you search just about any company you will find scam reports on them. I do have to apologize to all of you for the previous replies that seemed "hostile". I am just trying to stick up for a company that has been very good to me. I will not post replies like that going forward. It is important for people to voice their opinions, even if others don't agree and I do respect that. I have learned my lesson about that.

Currently in their interview. These people throw around finance buzzwords without having any knowledge whatsoever. They were talking about indexed funds being protected against recessions and downward market movements. I asked if they had a division for designing their own portfolios customized, did they have several options for clients, or was it as simple as passive investments in pre-existing independent indexes already on the market.
The representative didn't know what I was talking about and considering the gap in basic background finance fundamentals in a finance group, I informed them I was not interested.
If you wish to go forward with their offer, go ahead. But several red flags have been seen already. They use multi-level marketing strategies that are similar to a pyramid scheme, with mentions of "independent brokering" within the firm that operates independently.
I also had in common with many on the site with a "Rosa" being my original contact through text. However, the messages from them were simply the same message over and over in response to my questions.

+4

Oh yeah, these people have to be licensed by the state in order to do business. The licensing includes extensive ethics education. Scam, I think not.

By the way, just because they don't speak "Wall Street" doesn't mean they don't know what they are talking about. Can you describe in detail how a fixed indexed annuity works or what participation rate is? I bet not.

So, how do you know these people don't have any financial knowledge? Also, without knowing how the company is really structured how do you know this is MLM or a pyramid scheme. Every associate has the same opportunity to get promoted. Each person has their own lane to run in. Doesn't sound like a pyramid to me.

Scam don’t answer or respond to their text. Report and be wary of financial institutions that give you “freedom”

+7

Just remember people, there are two sides to every story. So far you just have one side to look at.

I got the same text message from Rosa @ SLD. I decided to attend the zoom interview before finding this page, but no matter how many questions I asked about specifics of the position, I didn't get any information. I even went as far as to say... how would me, someone with NO finance background, be scouted for this company? What would my duties be as an associate? The man interviewing me, who also did the overview presentation, gave a completely gibberish answer. He basically said I would be "financially advising" but gave no specifics as to responsibilities of the position. He legitimately did not know, and when I pressed further he seemed to lose his train of thought and apologized. Really weird interview.

+12

I was contacted by Rosa @ SLD "regarding my resume" as well and received the same text information regarding a couple of questions and possibly an interview. I did not apply with this company and do not see any positions that may have prompted a notice based on my resume information.

+7

I was contacted about a possible job opportunity by Rosa, and was told to call 949-421-6263 to schedule an interview. I chatted with a lady Diane about a job in "leadership" and I asked where she got my resume she said online. It was very sketchy, I've read that they try to make you send them $100 for a background check for the job. I did not get to that step.

+4

Same story: Text from Rosa, unable to speak to her directly, vague info about the company, did not apply to this company. Felt suspicious. Did some research. BTW, Airplanedad seems very defensive and hostile. I will not be moving forward with the Zoom interview. Thanks for the heads-up!

+6

So this is a forum where you get to post your opinion, right? After all these are just opinions, right? So just because airplanedad posts his opinion too that is defensive and hostile? If these reports were based on anything but someones opinion perhaps you would be right to call airplanedad defensive and hostile. But in this case he is just posting his opinion too. When did that become a crime.

I was contacted by Rosa as well.
Hi This is Rosa @ SLD regarding your resume. We have a couple of questions and possibly schedule an online interview. Call me at 949-503-0406
I quickly googled the company and reviews and avoided the zoom call.

+13

If SLD is Truly WFG, they are a legitimate company.
You have to get an Insurance Licenses to sell their products, that $130.00 fee must be some upfront fee they are charging that someone mention above.
I worked with WFG for about a year, it is not easy, work, they convince you to buy a life insurance policy, and they tell you that you cannot write a policy on yourself (THAT IS BIG BOLD FACE UNTRUTH), The company I am working for now let me write a policy on myself, and I got 100% of my commission, selling myself a policy. I remember asking why can’t I write a policy on myself, I was told that the Insurance commissioner does not allow agents to buy a policy on them self. (They just took money out of my pocket)
The Directors who you are under and they are the one that will be training you, all they want is the commission for them self, they truly do not care about you.
They care about you, signing up your family and friends, because they take half of your commission for going on the appointment for helping you selling your family and Friends. And that is for life of the policy. They operate like a Multi Level Marketing Company (MLM).
The reason I did this review I got a text message from Rosa, when I called they would not give you any details about the job, all they would say is that they are a Financial Company.
When anyone call you regarding a Job, and they cannot go in to some detail about the job, and they just want you to come in for an interview. DON’T GO.
I hope this helps.

+10

You are right about them taking half of your commission. But only when you go on training appointments with your trainer. Once you complete 10 training appointments and go on your own the commission is 100% yours. None of the directors want your commission for themselves.

I am watching the scam presentation right now. It is obvious. They are telling everyone how they will train them to make $$. There were 86 people on a zoom meeting (starting out). We are muted and zoom will not allow us to un-mute. There is no chat. The react emoji are only positive. I cannot change me name on the meeting. There is no way to warn these poor fools.

+6

Some of these "poor fools" may actually need the opportunity. You have every right to post here but why would you disrupt their meeting with things you know nothing about. If you think this company is a scam you have no idea what they really do. Unless of course you think protecting families and their money is indeed a scam. If so, you are the one people should feel sorry for.

I rec'd a text from a woman named Rosa at "SLD" regarding my resume that she reviewed and that they'd like to schedule an interview possibility at SLD or Spartan Leadership Development Financial. Her phone number was (949) 288-2704. In the text they said to contact "Kevin" at (424) 247-6301. When I called that number Kevin wanted to get me on a Zoom call for an interview although he could not provide a job description or give any information on the role that I would be applying for. I asked him where they got my information and number from and he said Rosa saw it on CarrerBuilder.com - I thought this was weird especially since I have not used that website in years, if ever. I don't think I've ever uploaded my resume to that website before - that was the first thing I found suspicious. He told me that the position involves leadership and they're looking for people with management experience and to rate my leadership skill level from 1-10. To which I told him 8 and he laughed at me. I asked him what was funny and he said that I sounded unsure. I asked him if he could provide me with a website and he said to google their company and the website will pop up (without actually giving me the website address). When I did, the website is ambiguous and it's unclear if this is a real company. I read many different Yelp reviews and they all say the same thing, including people who have sent them money for a background check - which I have never heard of a company requiring money from the potential employee for a background check.

I think that this is a fraudulent company and should be dismantled and the people running it should be prosecuted.

+18

You are making a judgement without really finding out what they do. Its OK though, if you think this is a fraudulent company you have no place there.

RUN!
- WFG has been a scam for many years... at least 10-12 since I first came across them. I have friends who work for WFG and would tell them the same.
- The fact that they have to change their name often is proof of this.
- Airplanedad is obviously in over his head therefore feels the need to defend them to the hill. :)

+6

This is my parting shot and then I am done here. Just so you Know, I am sure that this website does provide valuable information that helps people. In this case not so much:
So, everyone has a right to their opinion, correct? That includes me, correct? Good, I have seen your opinions and now you are going to see mine. I am sick and tired of people bashing SLD, especially when they have no idea of what we are all about. These are great people doing great things. I have been here for over 2 years and will be here the rest of my life. Why don’t any of these “victims” talk about the good things we do for the community? For example, at Christmas time the entire SLD family reached into their pockets and bought over 1,000 pairs of socks and blankets for girls who were at a domestic abuse center and desperately needed these items. On a more personal level, I have a new business partner who is from Nepal. He is a very smart person, but his English is not so great. So, every day I spend an hour to an hour and a half of my own time helping him improve his English. We are working on pronunciations and he is reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to me. No one pays me for this, I do it because I want him to succeed. Can someone please clarify which part of a scam this falls under? Oh yeah the reason this isn’t mentioned is becuase the people who write these reviews never stick around long enough to see what we are really about. They see what they want to see and then bash us.
When I came to SLD I had some handicaps. A neglectful, selfish father and abusive stepfather left me with a lifetime of low self-esteem, self-confidence and self-worth that at times was almost crippling. Even though I was able to become a stronger person it wasn’t until I came to SLD that the real changes happened. Right away I knew I had a place where I could fit in and be appreciated. They were extremely patient with me and always worked to lift me up. More importantly they challenged me to lift myself up as well. I had always felt I had leadership skills but none of my jobs gave me the title or pay even though they gave me the responsibility. My SLD family has recognized my leadership skills and is putting them to work as well as making a place for me to have the success I deserve but no one else felt I should have. And they do the same thing for everyone one else. We all have the same opportunity to grow and prosper.
If you want to attack my character, go right ahead, I have had a tough life but am a STRONG person with the morals and values that match. What you think about me is none of my business and what you say about me plays no role in who I am or who I will be tomorrow. I am true to my beliefs and will stick to them no matter what. It is my opinion that negativity breeds suspicion and if the people who write these reviews are suspicious it is because they are negative and in that case they have no place with SLD anyways. Just like you have the right to your opinion I have the right to mine and when you make yours heard I will do the same, so get used to it. I am extremely proud to be with SLD. This is my family you are talking about here. I stand tall and proud with them and for them. I want to leave with something to think about: kindness is like a comfortable shirt; you don’t know how good it feels until you try it on.

Oh yes, don't forget this review on this page:

I have been hired with SLD and I got out for other reasons , but the job is legitimate . You will pay 130 for your license which is normal and its not a scam. When i left they had refunded me my money do to special circumstances . Just be careful you guys might be dealing with other fraudulent companies named SLD . This company is real and i signed up with them through Glassdoor. Good luck and I just wanted to put this out there as I was confused at first to.

I tried to contact Scam Pulse to talk about these posts and my emails were rejected, before I posted the responses. Sounds like this company is only interested in one side of the story. Typical of these kinds of review sites.

I am so glad I found this information out before I wasted my time on the ZOOM call. I never applied to this company; Just for reference: i got a text message from "Rosa @ SLD", when I called the number, I was introduced to Diane (who said she was Rosa's manager). She proceeded to ask me a few questions on my background and hen said they were a Financial Community Outreach program - when I asked for the website, I got the following "SLDFinancials.com" which has nothing but one page. I tried to look up the company and any employees on Linkedin, but surprise, there are NONE. Scam Alert everyone!

+13

What makes you think this is a scam just because the website is only one page and you can't find anything on Linkedin? Doesn't sound like you did much research at all.

- Yorba Linda, CA, USA

They have a webinar and interview for a financial consulting firm. They ask for $100 for a background check. They end just taking that money and running.
