The Opinion Research Institute is doing a survey in Fairfax County and wants to include your opinions:

*****************************************************************************&am... STOP to opt out

- Falls Church, VA, USA

Got a text from someone claiming to be the Opinion Research Institute. Said they wanted me to complete a survey, and offered a link to same. I never heard of OPI, so I tried to look them up on the web. Only reference I could find was their own website, apart from a previous entry much like mine (this one) on the ScamPulse.com website. So although I have no direct evidence that "OPI" is a scam, I have no evidence that they're legit, either. Since this came via a common means of perpetrating scams (unsolicited text message including a link) I'm opting to play it safe and not click on the link. BTW, I note that the text I got came from a Virginia area code. I didn't pay enough attention to the previous ScamPulse.com entry, but it wouldn't surprise me if the source of the other solicitation was also from another state, other than Virginia, hunting that the ACTUAL source may be being hidden or disguised.

A telephone call from ""Stephanie Rodriguez" with the independent process service in the dispatch division" asking about verifying your address and place of employment in regard to a "case" - very aggressive and when i state i was not the person they asked for, they said "Are you saying you dont know this person". I said please take me off your list you have the wrong number. Then they called again and left a message anyway saying the same things. annoying and can be scary if you dont know its a scam. IT IS!

I didn't answer the phone call since my phone stated the call was a potential scam. The scammer left the following voicemail:

"This is the fraud detection department for Wings Financial Credit Union calling for (my name). We need to verify some activity on your card ending in 7200 (I don't have a card with this number). In order to prevent possible difficulties using your card it is important that you call us back at your earliest convenience toll-free at 833-950-1947 to verify this activity. Please reference case number 1283 when returning our call. Give me call us back 24 hours a day seven days a week. The number again is 833-950-1947, thank you."

The voicemail itself sounded like a robotic message.

He sent the following email to me with my name, address, and cell phone number attached:
****** *****,
I know that calling ###-###-#### or visiting *** ********** ***** would be a effective way to contact you if you
don't cooperate. Don't try to hide from this. You've got no idea what my power is in Gaithersburg.
I suggest you read this message carefully. Take a minute to relax, breathe, and really dig into it. We're talking about something serious here, and I don't play games. You don't know anything about me however I know A LOT about you and right now, you are wondering how, correct?
Well, you've been treading on thin ice with your browsing habits, scrolling through those videos and clicking on links, stumbling upon some not-so-safe sites. I actually installed a Malware on a porn website, and you visited it to watch (if you know what I mean). And while you were busy watching our videos, your smartphone began operating as an RDP (Remote Protocol) which provided me with total control over your device. I can look at everything on your screen, flick on your cam and mic, and you wouldn't even suspect a thing. Oh, and I've got access to all your emails, contacts, and social media accounts too.
Been keeping tabs on your pathetic life for a while now. It is simply your misfortune that I stumbled across your bad deeds. I gave in more days than I should have, exploring into your personal life. Extracted quite a bit of juicy info from your system. and I've seen it all. Yeah, Yeah, I've got footage of you doing filthy things in your house (nice setup, by the way). I then developed videos and screenshots where on one side of the screen, there are the videos you were enjoying, and on the other half, it is your vacant face. With simply a single click, I can send this filth to all of your contacts.
Your confusion is clear, but don't expect sympathy. Actually, I am willing to wipe the slate clean, and allow you to continue with your daily life and wipe your slate clean. I am going to offer you two alternatives.
Option One is to turn a blind eye to this email. Let us see what will happen if you choose this path. I will send your video to all of your contacts. The video is lit, and I can't even fathom the humiliation you'll endure when your colleagues, friends, and family see it. But hey, that's life, ain't it? Don't be playing the victim here.
A wiser second option is to pay me, and be confidential about it. We’ll call it my “keep the secret tip”. Now Let's see what happens when you pick this choice. Your filthy secret will remain private. I will wipe everything clean once you come
through with the payment. You need to make the payment by Bitcoins only. I want you to know I'm aiming for a win-win here. I'm a person of integrity.
Amount to be sent: USD 1950
BITCOIN ADDRESS IS: bc1q700urmqnewulv0geud72xwndkh89ez52hq8hn4
Once you pay up, you'll sleep like a baby. I keep my word.
And of course: You got one day to sort this out and I will only accept Bitcoins (I have a unique pixel within this message, and right now I know that you've read this e-mail). My system will catch that Bitcoin payment and wipe out all the dirt I
got on you. Don't even think about replying to this or negotiating, it's pointless. The email and wallet are custom-made for you, untraceable. If I suspect that you've shared or discussed this email with anyone else, your [censored]ty video will instantly start getting sent to your contacts. And don't even think about turning off your phone or resetting it to factory settings.
It's pointless. I don't make mistakes, ******.
Honestly, those online tips about covering your camera aren't as useless as they seem. I am waiting for my payment…

They stated they were called for **** ***** with the last 4 digits of her social being****. We are calling to inform you that you have been placed on our list to have legal documents served to you. I immediately called them back and got connected with a female operator. I stated that I have been getting these calls for months and I would like to be taken off the call list. She stated absolutely and I hung up.
