I was approached by a man on my street who was offering roofing services at an affordable price. The price started at 7000.00 and when I declined I was asked what would make me get the job done tomorrow? He came back with 4000.00+tax and I agreed to get the job done! I was told there would be no hidden fees or add ons and if in the off chance a plywood was not useable they would also replace that for no added fees a quick contract was drawn up and both myself and the man signed it. Flash forward to today the owner (father of the man I dealt with previously) shows up has his team of guys strip my old shingles off and the proceeds to tell me all the plywood as well as all the structural lumber is rotten??? (I was literally in my attic 2 weeks ago and it was all great!!) the new cost will be 14900.00 to take care of everything and give me a brand new roof! After some choice words being exchanged I stood my ground and insisted they just complete the job as originally agreed upon. Job gets done beautifully from what I could see and then came time for payment… I asked the man for his GST/HST number and he gave me a bogus number of 594321 and then told me if I’m not happy paying the tax he will just take the tax off and charge me an additional 500.00! I am pretty sure that is illegal! He ended up charging me 4100.00 cash and altering the invoice to not include tax so he doesn’t have to pay any to the government I guess. He also scratched my car when he forcefully scribbled out he fraudulent GST number from the receipt. Then he proceed to ask me to give him a good word of mouth to my friends and family as though he hadn’t just tried to take advantage of me as well as talked over me, called my family names, and try to scam me out of an extra 11000.00!
