I had a similar experience, being offered a position as Illustrator. When I looked at the contract requiring me to buy all these random supplies, I felt suspicious and looked it up. That and the strange wording were red flags. I've not signed anything - I'll reply to the email that I've decided against the position or something like that.

Stefanie Miolan [email protected]. (this email address uses a generic "gmail.com" not personalized "goatgroup.com") a sign that it's a fake account.

I received an email from the person above about an illustrator position:

We found your portfolio through indeed.com from one of our post and we require you to take a short online interview with our hiring department.

For immediate consideration we would like to have a brief chat with you through our Telegram app page, you can download Telegram app on your computer or smart phone from the app store , save the Technical Manager Josh Webman number (323-546-9040) as a contact on your phone and send him a message to begin the interview.

This happened to me today but prior to getting a check I thought to google "Ashley Coreas GOAT scam" and thankfully found this article.

- Goleta, CA, USA

A person named Ashley Coreas contacted me about a UX design position and asked me to add Daniel Bay on Telegram. Asked 13 questions all at once and asked me to answer them in Telegram through text. After 20 minutes of submitting my answers they told me I was hired and asked me to sign a poorly constructed contract with numerous typos. I asked to meet through zoom and they declined. Upon seeing a previous scam report on ScamPulse.com I am now sure this was a scam.

I recieved an email from someone claiming to be "Ashley Corea" from GOAT Group (both real names of an employee and company) with an offer for an Illustrator job. This was several weeks ago but I just encountered the exact same scam claiming to be a different company (Under Armour)so it seems this is a scam template used by multiple bad actors. The way the scam works is as follows:

1. The email, which appears to be from an HR professional, contains a job description and claims to be hiring for a full time work from home position with a generous salary (the first email I got offered $85/hour, this new one offers 50-65/hour). The email instructs the target to text a certain number (in both cases this was supposedly the "Technical Manager's" number) and download the Telegram chat client.

2. Once the target has initiated contact and downloaded Telegram, they are given an interview over text. The interview I was given for the GOAT scam consisted of 10 questions.

3. After the interview has been completed, the target is "offered" the job and given a contract to sign. The contract I recieved was very bare bones, riddled with grammar errors, and appeared to be pieced together out of several different templates.

4. Once the contract has been signed the scammer sends a check (I received it over Telegram) that is to be used for "supplies" and instructs the target to deposit it with a mobile banking app and send proof of the deposit. The check I received was for $3500. This is where I caught on to the scam; I believe it is a phishing scam for bank account information.

The red flags I noticed about the communications:

1. All communications had some level of broken English or bad grammar.

2. My point of contact was constantly texting me at odd hours, so I believe the scammer was located outside the US (I am not sure where)

3. The point of contact was pushy and aggressive, constantly pressuring me to respond and move forward.

4. The salary offered was way too good to be true ($85/hour for an illustrator position which usually pays around 20-30 an hour for an entry level position)

5. All communications were through text only; I requested to speak with the "HR employee" via phone but never received a response.

6. I couldn't find any record of a "Michael Miller" (the so-called Technical Manager) working at GOAT Group through LinkedIn.

7. They claimed that I would need to order all the necessary equipment myself, which seemed off.

Please be aware of this SCAM! I just became their latest victim offering a graphic design position with The Goat Group. I questioned the process but ended up giving them paperwork that exposed my name, address, and SS#, along with a copy of my ID. I can't believe I fell for this scam that was obviously "too good to be true". Luckily I have Fraud Protection, but needed to contact my bank, DMV, and IRS to be on the lookout for any suspicious activity with my identity from these a**holes. Dark web alerts showed up on my account less than an hour after they received my paperwork. I also filed a report with my local police and the FBI.

They hijacked Ashley Coreas LinkedIn to get me to think they were legit as well. I should have known better. Lookout for email addresses that don't have the company's name in the address. The "HR rep" Jacklyn Johnson's email that the original notification came from was [email protected]. I didn't even notice until later. And Ashley Corea's email was [email protected]. Neither had the @goat.com suffix or anything like that.

The same thing happened to me yesterday. I also received the check but it seems like the check was legit and it had been deposited into my account. what happen after you received your check? Was there a real job you were given?
