The scam is as follows: Matt Boda recruits amateur writers to "nurture and develop their ideas" for a membership cost of $1200 annually. He's careful to specify the difference between writing "on spec" and "on assignment." His definition for "on spec" is basically when a writer works, unpaid for themselves. His definition for "on assignment" is when a writer works under someone, on their schedule while getting paid. He then treats his clients/members as assignment writers, aka employees and refuses to answer direct questions via email. I said I wasn't interested, and was contacted via email by another "member" that told me he'd recently been "promoted" to being a "producer" by Matt. When I tried calling Matt directly, he responded via text and became verbally abusive saying, "You'll need to have thicker skin if you want to advance in this collaborative art form. You're very self-centered as well. You should try and see how you can help others because you can't see past your nose." He ended the conversation with, "This is taking up too much of my time and my time is worth something. I'm not here to be led around by someone who pretends to want to collaborate but really just wants me to listen to them talk about themselves." Again, he behaves this way toward "clients" under the guise of "nurturing writers" and "collaboration."
