Totally the same situation!

On 9/5/20 was completely scammed by the online Elite Brittish Shorthair Cattery

in my emotional quest to obtain a BSH kitten. The “business” has their website and advertisements online showing kittens sold for 50% off including free shipping special for one week. Upon going to website, there is a page showing photo boxes of all kittens with their name;age;gender;vaccines with a health guarantee. The photo box then says “but x kitten now”. Once you select kitten you are then lead to a page to input your contact info. (name;phone;email;address;state). Once submitted you then receive a text prompting you to your email for a “qualified pet owner questionnaire” to ensure you’re a good house for kitten. This email asks for you to again specify your exact location and how soon you would like your kitten. Once “approved” you then receive another message describing the kitten and their temperament along with more photos. They sent a video immediately upon request. One of their emails describes what will be sent with the kitten including vet records, paperwork; and personal care items (food;toy;litter box...). Once you nievely decide to move ahead with getting the kitten, you then receive a message asking for your location and nearest airport for transport. Told about payment required using Zelle. A Zelle account given belonging to a “Hamed Akinsanya” “[email protected]. Once payment made you are asked to send a screen shot via text to (717) 373-5549. I sent $550.00

Told that once received you would receive shipping details. The very next am. I received an email from “seller” Indicating he had just dropped the kitten off at the cargo company. Told I would hear from cargo company with flight details.

Ok so phase 2 of the scam. I received an email from “Fine Cargo Logistics” which appears as a legitimate large company online that the scammers are pretending they are using. The email is from [email protected]. Also received numerous calls from (878)206-9508 regarding the urgent need to purchase a special 100% fully refundable Thermal Electric Crate for $960.00. Refund given upon door to door delivery of the kitten. Again, they appear to be using cover of a legit cargo company “finecargologistics.com”. Their emails link you to the company. They indicate that they will send flight transport info. once your confirmed Zelle payment is made. Again, asking for a screen shot of payment. Once you show them proof of payment you do not hear anything from them for a few hours (no flight details) nothing else until later that evening of 9/6/20. During this communication gap is when me “the Queen of dumb” emotional cat lady “wises up”. I started to look online and found the ScamPulse.com 2018 kitten scam article and scam messages posted to Reddit. I lost $1,510 (total)!

By the evening of 9/6 it was too late to call my bank to cancel Zelle payment to cargo company for $960.00. Given the holiday on 9/7/20 I need to see if there is anything that my bank can do on 9/8 to reverse my payments to both Scammers. And then 3rd part of scam. After receiving my initial $960 and recognising my stupidity, they thought they could also get me to buy pet travel insurance costing $2,000! They sent me this message later on 9/6. Thank Goodness my brain fog was lifted before then. Honestly, when you just walk through it - there are the red flags but it felt very legit. I’ve had 2 friends go online to the Elite British Shorthair Cattery to see what they received. Sure enough on 9/7 both received the same exact texts and emails that I did verbatim (with the name of their chosen cat). The text address and emails all the same so the Scammers are out for more!

Also I’m not sure but the same scheme seems true for an online site called “Unique Brittish Cattery. Their online under “uniqueBrittishCattery.com”. I was originally looking at their kittens also 50% off with shipping $120. I believe located in Alabama. Email used: “[email protected]. Same exact scheme.

How was I so duped? Their website and communications seem smoother when comparing. Honestly, emotional poor thinking! With Covid shut in as a high risk person also pending major medical testing this week, I really wanted a kitten for companionship to help elevate anxiety for treatment testing and pending results this week. I’ve ALWAYS wanted a Brittish Short hair kitten. I was dumb enough to believe that they were being sold for 50% off to make space for new litters coming.

Ok so that’s ALL of it! Huge life lesson about red flags, emotional buying, and things too good to be true!

I’m old school and not tech savvy so I am afraid to attach ALL of my receipts.

I can send them separately to include with the story!
