Rec'd phone call and was told to call an 800# so did. Said I owed revenue canada money and with interest and penalties the amt was over 6000 dollars and if didn't pay by the end of today they would send police. I would loose my home and all assets and would go to jail. They told me I must go to bank now. They also said not to hang up the phone until I deposit the money to a bit coin machine in downtown Victoria or tell anybody about this call or else they would send police as they were tracking me at all times. Did what they said. Deposited the money as asked and then they said that money was received but I was just reassessed and owed them another 3000.00. That's when I got the police involved. I was told to ask them certain questions and man on the phone starting getting very upset and that's when the police women took my phone and told him that he was now under investigation

They hung up immediately. This was about 2 months ago

Money never recovered of course.

They called me again last week but was a recorded message this time.

I hung up!

I gave these guys a fake name. They proceeded to say I have warrants to arrest for tax fraud and that for the last 3 years I have been miscalculating tax. I have only been in the country for 4 months. In the end I told them I knew it was a scam and had a somewhat heated chat with the operator who showed off his scam skills by then spoof calling me from the local RCMP number.

Unfortunately anyone can put any number on their phone these days so this sort of thing will never go away.

I recorded the entire interaction.

Received a call from unknown number which left a garbled voicemail on my phone claiming to be CRA and I was "under investigation for tax fraud".

It was in our office's answering machine so the first bit was cut-off (automatic message sounding like a Chinese person) called Officer Craig from Vancouver has some sort of urgent need for us to call him back.

He says if we don't urgently call him back, he will take some action and we will be sorry (very strange).

I believe this is a scam.

This number will call you and implicate that you've done something wrong and you need a lawyer if you don't call them back. When you call this number they tell you they are Rev Can and say it fast enough to sound like Revenue Canada. When I asked his name his rambled it out with his badge number and department. I had to ask several times out loud are you with Revenue Canada he finally replied no and hung up. They are after your Social Insurance Number.

I received a text message last night at 12:53am from E-transfer: Revenue Agency. Telling me a "Interac" E-transfer has been sent to me. And to open a link to deposit some of my income tax return into my account. the link looks like "http:// 1interact-etransf-tax.com/interac/"

The phone number that they used is 1-819-266-7512

Its a scam, since i already have done my tax's and deposited my return.

This was an automated call that I didn't answer and it went to voicemail. I did not fall victim but want to report it.

I am tired of all these scare tactics that they use to scam people.

I had a friend who received a similar call. He panicked, I felt so bad for him. I explain that it was a scam. But he had already called them back and they told him he had to pay 2000.00 now or go to jail. Yelling at him and such. They were very convincing which make me wonder if he was also victim to identity theft.

Below is the exact words from the recording on the call today.

"The reason behind this call is to notify you that we have registered a criminal case against your name concerning tax deficiency and tax fraud so if you need more information about this case you can call our direct line number which is 305-224-1726"

You get an automated message claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency looking for tax information and to fix a tax problem. They want you to contact them with personal information to correct your tax problem. The Canada Revenue Agency would never use this kind of method. I am sure it is 100% a scam.
