Re. Phone Scam From 409-497-9485

I do not answer unknown phone callers; I waited until call ended, then blocked that number. I used spydialer.com, an online reverse phone lookup tool, to check owner of the telephone number. The reverse phone tool identified someone named Tom near Galveston Texas at that number. The voice messages said I had two (2) pending charges against me and if I did not act to take care of these charges, my local police would arrest me.

I use a California cell phone while visiting our farm in another state.

Received a robocall voicemail stating I was wanted on 4 serious allegations and that I had 24 working hours to return their call or I would be taken under custody by local cops.

I received a call on Saturday evening, Oct 28, 2017. A male caller asked me if this was "my name." Without thinking, I said "yes." He immediately responded "great" and hung up. I tried to call the number back and got a fast busy signal and then immediately the call was disconnected. Reports are that the recorded "yes" can be used to open accounts, and to try to prove they were authorized.

A man called me and stated he was having a party and bought 18 pizzas and nobody showed up. He asked me if I would help him eat the pizza's. He kept stopping and saying "Is that a yes". I told him nice try and he hung up. Other people in my area are reporting the same strange phone calls.

Caller asked if I could hear them. Then started talking about older adults and the risk of falling.

She said her name was Lisa from the 'warranty department'. She had been trying to reach me for some time because the warranty on my vehicle was about to expire & we needed to start paperwork & payment for an extension. I asked her how my warranty was expiring because my vehicle is brand new with only 17,500 miles on it and it came with a 100,000 mile warranty. She started stuttering & stammering & the abruptly hung up.

A woman contacted me thinking she was calling back the original caller re: car warranties. I returned her call as she had left a voice mail. We were both confused as I had NOT called her and she verified my number in her phone logs. She freely gave me her name so if I proceed with any reports she could be reached.

Tonight I received a call from the number (210) 245-5921. I thought I recognized the number and that's the only reason I answered it. The caller identified me and asked me twice if I was that person. I instinctively said yes twice thinking at this point that he was a customer of mine. He then proceeded to try to get me to donate money to some charity. I told him not to call again and hung up. I've heard of a scam where the telemarketers primary goal is to get you to say yes so that they can record it and use it to get you to unknowingly purchase something. I fear I may have fallen victim to this scam. Could you please advise me what I can do to protect myself at this point? Thank you.

My phone number is being used in spoofing. I have reported it to the FCC. They are "selling" security systems from what I have been told. I have also been informed that there is currently nothing I can do about my phone number being spoofed. This seems to be a trend with 412-708 phone numbers.

- Lyons, OR, USA

Received a call on a Saturday evening about being late on a credit card bill. They were evasive when I asked what the charge was for, when I asked if it was my cell phone they said yes. I called my credit card to report the scam, they said there was a $137 charge for the Houston Zoo. The charge was removed and my credit card was cancelled. The caller knew my credit card number, home & cell phone number and address.

I've received multiple phone calls from the numbers listed above. They are indicating that they can help with student loan repayment, but I've never had any student loans. They've been very aggressive and are calling me daily. I tried to call back to tell them to stop, but it is always a voice mail from someone named Mark Williams. I am trying to figure out how to get them to stop calling me.

The message left on my phone was a man's voice, no name, stating I must return the call today. When I called the number back it was a woman, English speaking (no accent) claiming that I owed over $1000 but did not say for what debt or to what company I owed it to. She stated that they sent notification to my previous address and that I never responded. She also used things like my previous address, employer, and the last 4 SS #'s. All things that are relatively public knowledge but make the call sound legitimate. She said that I could resolve it voluntarily today or they would be filing felony theft charges with my states attorney's office because it was over $1000 dollars. If I chose not to resolve it they would file the charges and there would be a search and seizure warrant issued for me within 48 hours. No legitimate debt collector can have you arrested for non payment. They make it sound pretty convincing so beware.

I answered the phone and there was a clear silence and a man?s voice said "Hello, can you hear me? Hello? " I said "Yes." He said, "I can?t hear you, I will have to call you back". The person called again, I said Hello? and the person said can you hear me? and I hung up. 949-932-0748

The phone number 877-734-2256 is a scam. It is a mistype of a legitimate number, State Farm Bank's 877-734-2256. If you call this number, like I did, expecting State Farm Bank, they will happily pretend, over a poor phone connection, to be the bank and ask for "verifying information" like your name, phone number, and address. Then, to fix whatever problem you have, they say they have to charge a fee of $4.95. When I said this was preposterous, paying a fee for a simple bank transaction and that they should pay ME, they hung up.

I realized the error and called the real State Farm Bank. Unfortunately, the scammers have my personal information and have already tried to call me with an international phone number.

Representative is trying to sell people on solar panels. I informed him that I was not interested. He took comments to non-business / inappropriate level. I asked to be removed from the call list and he said "no, we do not do that", and proceeded to hang up.
