I think I was victim of the identity theft tactic, as they said “can you hear my ok?” And I stupidly said yes. Then I hung up but I’ve read this may Be all they need to gain consent for commit identity theft or fraud.

- Mocksville, NC, USA

Received a call on my cell phone on Friday, 10/13/17 at 2:14 pm. Female caller (I believe she said her name was Rachel, but not sure), said that the call was being recorded, and that she was a trip advisor, then asked if I could hear her ok. I, without realizing initially that it was a scam call, replied “umm hmm” then immediately hung up. I will definitely be keeping close watch on my accounts, not answering calls from any number I don’t know, even if the area code and prefix are familiar (this number had the same area code and prefix as me, and caller ID said it was from a neighboring town), and freezing my credit!

- Port Neches, TX, USA

When answering the phone, the person identified himself and saying they were calling on behalf of Trip Advisor. Then mentioned something about recording and asked "Can you hear me alright". I paused for a few seconds, then said "yes, what is this about?"....they proceeded saying something about cruises, etc., I said I was not interested and hung up..and then I remembered hearing about that specific scam! It was our area code used in the phone number, (I answered, thinking it might be one of the grand-kids) and being as we had just came back from vacation, Trip Advisor, made it sound more legit. Hopefully, because I paused a second or two before saying "yes" and "what is this about" was said all in one sentence, they will not be able to use the "yes" for anything. I did call the number back later on and someone answered with "Senior Care Authority" and proceeded to tell me they were offering cruises, etc. The guy was going to send me over a "specialist" because I told him I was not interested. It was a "live" person I was speaking to. I hung up at this time.

- Knoxville, TN, USA

This call came in as a local call and I had inquiries in that area. I never answer these calls if they are not local. Always say "No" when an unidentified caller ask you a question up front and then hang up.

- Littleton, CO, USA

I received this email yesterday and today. Yesterday I made the mistake of clicking this is not me in reply and today I received numerous spam emails. Today I just contacted Marriott about this reservation and they have none in my name. I also asked them to check to see if this photo shows their Marriott at Biscayne Bay Miami and she said that was a completely different hotel pictured. She contacted that Marriott and they said they have received a lot of

calls about this fake email.

She is alerting her colleagues about this scam.

Called, told me she worked for Trip Advisor, and asked if I could hear her.

- Greenville, SC, USA

called me and told me i qualified for a cruise, then asked if I could hear them ok.

When business phone was answered-they said Trip Advisor- "can you hear me now"? We hung up withour saying anything.

I think this might be the scam where they get you to say yes, and then use that. Shortly after the call began there was some noise on the line and she said can you here me? Unfortunately I said yes, then she continued about a free cruise associated with some charity but I hung up. Don't know if it was a scam or not but didn't feel right.

- Warren, MI, USA
