Received a phone call with voicemail to return a call from the National Gaming Commission @ 202-640-4272 from a John Perkins. Mr. Perkins said I was the second place winner in a sweepstakes held by Sweepstakes Go Premium of $750,000. I was asked if I received the notices mailed to my physical mailing address (which he knew); that I had not responded; that I could go on the website provided and put in my "personal code" (which he provided) to "see my name as the 2nd place winner"; that a check would be mailed to my address, but as required by the Biden administration, anything over $250,000 had to be registered and insured; that the federal and state taxes would be withheld. All sounded very legitimate until I was told I would need to pay the "insurance fee of 1% upfront", but I would receive a separate check reimbursing me for this amount, a separate check to reimburse me for the taxes that would be withheld, and the check for the prize winnings. He reiterated his name, his contact information and even phoned me back to tell me that he had given me the wrong personal code for verification on the website. He told me to call back with any questions at the number he provided. He answers with his name given at time of the call; asks who he was speaking to, as if he was a professional. He was very convincing. However, the request for the 1% to cover the registration and insurance is what made me realize that it was a scam.
