Received a phone call from a gentleman called Jake informing me that my QuickBooks Support needed renewing and that it was going to cost $499.99, I asked him to email me the information, I then contacted QuickBooks and they confirmed that it was a scam.

He was very convincing and well spoken without an obvious accent but not of American descent.

My advice would be to always ask for emailed confirmation of the charges and then check their email or web address on Google to ascertain if they are a real company or not and contact the company that they say they are representing to find out if they are real or not.
