I arranged through a broker to have my cars moved from California to Pennsylvania. I spoke to the broker in the morning and he told me that a third party car shipper would contact me that day. The scammer called me up to arrange pickup of my car. They had information about me that they must have got from a website I went to to get pricing for my car move. I asked if the company was the company that the broker had dispatched many times and the scammer kept saying that they were going to move my car for me. They asked for a $300 down payment. I told them that I had paid the broker $300. They said that that was the broker's fee and that they needed a down payment for the shipping. I gave them my credit card information, foolishly. Then I felt like something wasn't right, so I contacted my broker. He said that Smart Car Ship wasn't the company he'd arranged for me to work with. I called Smart Car Ship back to tell them to cancel the order and that they'd been deceitful, passing themselves off as the company my broker had arranged. They knew I was working with a broker and they knew my broker had arranged a third party mover for me. And still, they persisted, making me think they were that company. The people I spoke to were both very argumentative with me. They said that they had already given the driver the $300 and that I'd have to pay them an additional $200 cancellation fee. I told them that I wouldn't be paying them anything and that they were scammers. Once I finally got off the phone, one of them called me back to yell at me some more. It was very harsh. Legitimite businesses do not operate like this. These men are criminals. The man said he had my IP address and that he'd be getting his money. I called my credit card company to them to stop the payment and to get a new credit card number.
