Scammer posted online ad for beagle puppies on Facebook. Deposit of $300 was made with arrangements to pick up the dog on Friday, February 13th. Breeder was contacted on that date to confirm pickup, at which time we were informed they had a family emergency with a family member being hospitalized so they were unable to follow through but would have the puppy delivered by a reputable company. The shipping company then proceeded to demand additional payment of $500, $600 or $700 for the cost of a crate, which they claimed would be refundable at delivery. The breeder paid $200 and we paid another $300 to the contact person - Alexis Acosta. We believe the breeder and this person were working together. They then demanded another $500 for insurance. It was clearly obvious at this point we were being scammed. The shipping company even threatened jail time for abandoning the puppy which was never delivered. We lost a total of $600.
