Scammer claimed to be a hotel booking service affiliated with an industry trade show convention I attend each year. I "booked" with them 4 months in advance of the event, paid a $299 deposit, and received an email that my rooms were booked. 2 days before check in, I received and email notice letting me know my selected hotel had unfortunately sold out and they were offering a motel down the street as an alternative. The alternative option was offered at 200% of the going market rate and it was implied that my deposit may not be refunded if I didn't agree to accept their rate and alterative accommodation. I requested to speak to a manager to get this sorted out and was denied any possibility of talking to anyone in charge or getting their contact info. As of this time, it is 20 days past this event and my $299 deposit has still not been refunded despite email confirmation from this booking agency that they will do so. I'm instituting a credit dispute with my cc company. I hope you are able to get this scammer shut down to prevent others from making the same mistake.
