A man claiming to be named Dave Peterson called from 1-876-559-4337, saying I had won $2.5 million, tax-free, and a Mercedes Benz car from Publishers Clearinghouse. He said Publisher's Clearinghouse would pay 19% of the 20% in US taxes that I would owe, but I would have to go to Western Union or WalMart to pay the remaining 1%, or $365, in order to receive my "Invitation Receipt." Then a Mary James, attorney, would appear at my door with paperwork to sign. I would give her the Invitation Receipt and she would give me my prizes. When I insisted that I didn't have $365, he hung up on me.

A man named Peter Hendrix called and said he was from publishers clearing house. He said I had won $885,000. He said I had to pay some kind of fee that came to a total of $200. I didnt have $200 so he told me to pay what I could and he would get me a sponsor for the rest. I was able to pay $100. He told me to go straight to walmart to a western union center and send them the money. I went to Wal-Mart but they only had money gram so I used that. He tried to get a taking number from my receipt but it didn't have one. We figured it it was because it wasn't from western union. He made me go back in and get a refund and find somewhere nearby that had a western union center. So I went to the local rite aid. I used the phone they had connected to western union and on the recording it said if you are sending money to someone you don't know then report it because it was probably a scam. So I talked to another man from western union and he told me not to go through with the transaction because it was a scam. So I went back to my vehicle and I hung up my phone because the man wouldn't let me disconnect our call while I done all this. So as I was on my way home this man called around 25 to 30 times. When I got home the man called again and I let my boyfriend answer it. My boyfriend told the man if he didn't stop calling, we would report him to the police. The man very quickly hung up. No layer than an hour or two the same man called my boyfriends phone and tried to get him with the same scam. If you have any questions please call.

I as well as my girlfriend was contacted by a gentleman saying that he was part of Publishers Clearing House. He said his name was Peter Hendrix. He called us both on our cell phones and the phone number was blocked so we couldn't see it. He told us both that we had won 885,000 dollars but in order to receive the money we would first have to send 110 dollars via Western Union. My girlfriend almost fell for the scam when I immediately did not. Needless to say he said we had to send that money to Jamaca.

I answered the phone & he goes "good morning, how are you" I didn't recognize him & asked who he was. He immediately went into a dialogue about FedEx delivering my prize to me. I asked what prize & he asked if I remembered ever signing up for Publisher's Clearing House. I told him I'm sure I had at some point, but not any time recent. That made him happy, he responded "Very good, very good, I have good information for you. You have won I have a check for you for $900,000 USD and a brand new Mercedes." He continued that it came with $5,000/wk for life & he wanted to be the 1st to congratulate me. He asked if I would be home for delivery today, I said yes. He asked that I call a # to claim my prize. I was to call John Malone at 1-876-580-7681 EXT 5. He gave me a prize claim number MT899MCH. At no point did he bring up money or delivery fees, I kept waiting for him to give himself away. He strongly urged me to call so I could take delivery today & congratulated me but still did not know my name. I thanked him for "making my day" & ended the call.

I was contacted today, 2/2/2016, by a person declaring I had won $500K in a "publisher's clearing house" drawing. The person told me I had been selected No. 2 in a drawing. He confirmed my home address and said that a representative would come to my home this Thursday, 2/4/2016, to deliver the check. I was not asked for personal information regarding my credit or bank account nos. or that I was required to pay any money up front.

My question is: Do they contact you ahead to tell you that you won an amount of money? Also, have you heard of any home invasion attempts by this apparent "scam"?

I received a call from a person named David Parker. He claims that he was calling from Publishers Clearing House and that I had won the grand price of 2.5 million dollars and a new car. That the call was not a joke, he was for real and kept asking me how I felt about being a winner. He said that my price would be delivered today between 9-10. He gave me a bogus check number 001100582 and said that I was chosen out of 150 people to win the grand prize. He said that it was part of an American Cash Award. He proceeded to explain what an American cash award was, saying that they got my name from where I shopped like Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Target, Win Dixie and a few other places. Then he asked of I were close to a Winn Dixie or Wal-Mart, he ask how far away was I from them. I asked why he said that I needed to go secure my registration process with $235 dollars. I ask him why do I have to pay money to get money that I have won. I told him that did not make since and he said that is how it is. Once I secure my registration process with the $235 then they will deliver my 2.5 million and car. I told him that I was going to contact the BBB to report this scam and her proceeded to curse me out and call me other names.

I just needed to send them 450 usd so they can release my winnings. They tried to get me to drive to Walmart and send them a wire transfer for the money. They said they needed the 450 for the vehicle and kept telling me that this wasn't a prank. They sounded convincing and someone might fall for this.
