Guy called up and asked if I was me by already knowing my name. He then proceeded to tell me about how I won publishers clearinghouse and that he was from New York. He claimed that I had won $2.6 million and a brand new BMW through publishers clearinghouse. I said ok... He then started asking for personal information like address and what I do for a living. I told him if I won what does it matter what I do? He started getting agitated so I told him he was sounding like a scam. He said he was real and that I had won but he needs this important information. I asked if he could email it to me. He said yes, what email address should I send it to. I told him, "the one you have on file that I entered from." That ended the conversation. I then looked up the area code. A google search concluded that the number came from Jamaica instead of his claim of New York.

Consumer received a call claiming (caller ID Mandiville JM 876-781-8623) to be with Publishers Clearing House and that she won BMW and a large amount of money. The caller told the consumer she needed to pay 0.01% of the amount in taxes, a total of over $900.00 through a GreenDot Money Card in order to receive the prize. The consumer did not provide the information and proceeded to hang up the phone. A few weeks later, the consumer received her phone bill and noticed she was charged for the long distance call. After speaking with her phone company, the consumer did not have to pay the long distance call.

A man called my husband stating his name was Michael White with Publishers Clearinghouse, that my husband had one 7.5 million, a Mercedes, and other things, that they would deliver at 4pm, but that we would have to pay 750.00 to pay the taxes. When researching this found that publishers clearing house does not notify people they have won, that this would ruin the surprise, and warned of scams were people call and want you to pay taxes on money you are to receive. The next morning the man called me with the same story, I told him no thank you, you called my husband yesterday and hung up, the phone number used to call us was 876-879-9290

A letter came from "Publishers Clearing House" with a check for $4,822.03 as an advanced payment for winning $75,000. Supposedly it is to pay the taxes on my winnings. They want me to deposit the check and then they will come with my $75,000. I'm not sure how it works but the check says it is coming from Southwest Electric Co. in Oklahoma. I called them and they said someone stole numbers from them and they did not authorize the check.

Caller said name was Kyle W*** and consumer was picked at random to win; she was advised she didn't win the $10 Million or $5 Million prize, but he had a certified check being held at Bank of America; he would bring two US marshalls and this was coordinated with UPS. All he needed was consumer's 1040 and her 1099 form and then they would set up a meeting to give her the money.

He said his name was David Cooper and another time he said his name was David John Cooper. He said they were in Corpus Christi, Tx. right now. He said he had to ask me a few questions. He asked 1. Do I have a valid ID or DL #, 2. Do you want us to give you the check privately or publicly, 3. Are you married or divorced, 4. What was your occupation before you retired, 5. How is your name listed on your ID so when we go deliver the check we will know it is you. He asked how are you feeling right now are you excited that you won and I told him no because I did not think it was true. He kept saying yes its true. He said you just need to pay the 1% tax fee which would come out to $599.00. I asked him if I had to pay that or they could just get it out of the check before they gave it to me. He then just hung up the phone.
