I received a text message asking me if I still had a car that I was selling on Craigslist. I said yes, they then asked me to get a car history report through this specific website - carvinfact.com. They then asked me to send the report to a shared email between him and his girlfriend and to let him know if I had any problems with the report. The website looked semi-official but I didn’t think much of it until it asked for my credit card info and I decided to check it out.

I was contacted by someone with a male voice on the phone who just asked if my car was for sale. After I said yes, they quickly hung up and then texted me and said they could not talk. I called back but the voicemail was a girls voice. He proceeded to text me and ask that I obtain a VIN report, which requires purchase, on a website called officialvin.com. He said that I would send it to his girlfriend and his shared email address. When I told him to get report himself since I provided VIN number on autotrader.com, he stopped responding. When I reviewed the website officialvin.com, it appeared to me to as a sub part quality website looking to steal credit card information.

I have a vehicle listed for sale, received a call, a man asked if my car was still for sale then the call ended. A text came next apologizing for the dropped call and asking for a VIN report from officialvin.com and to email it at "User name". This seemed odd. I asked for the email address and after several back and forth texts it was not provided. I looked up the website officialvin.com and it was NOT SECURE. It looks totally legit but it's not secure! I texted back the site was not secure and I received another canned text: "I will check my email later today when I get home... Nick". Came here to BBB and found several others reported scam.

Call came from (949) 619-6194.
