After my father died, we contacted The Neptune Society. We had previously arranged for my father's remains to be creamated using their services. Less than an hour after we'd contacted them, my mother recieved a call from a google-voice number. The man identified himself as "William" and said he was an employee of The Neptune Society. He convinced my mother to give him my father's Medicare number. When I found out, I checked and found it was a google-voice number which was suspicious. I called Steve, our contact at The Neptune Society and he said the call didn't come from them. I find this very hard to believe. The scammer "William" used my mother's cell number, called her by name and no one else knew we'd contacted The Neptune Society except for employees of The Neptune Society. We contacted Medicare right away and no damage has been done so far. However, I'm convinced that someone at The Neptune Society of Sherman Oaks (15165 Ventura Blvd # 150, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403) was involved in this scam. Either they provided info to an outside party who called my mother or it was an employee misusing their system. Again, nobody else knew we'd contacted The Neptune Society except for the employees we spoke with.
