Someone from an mlgw number contacted meand told me if I didn't pay 600 today my mothers power would be shut off. They said I could pay the 600 and avoid it, but if i waited until after it was cut off I would have to pay $1000 because of recoonnect fees. The caller Id said MLGW. I am from out of state but came back to memphis to care for my mother in home hospice. It sounded fishy but I could't take a chance. They told me to get a gift card but when I hesitated they told me to pay at a Walmart using a barcode they sent me.

Recieved a phone call & a recording said "this is Mlgw calling to advise you that your utilities will be turned off in the next 30 - 45 minutes. Press 1 to speak to a representative or 2 to make a payment."

I chose to speak to a representative. While speaking to him he had generalities of my account but when I asked specifics, last payment date, current balance, etc he began to faulter. I asked to speak to his supervisor & he hung up.

At first he was very convincing, and he almost had me, but I began to doubt when I asked details.

He did have my address & older account balance information.

We received an imposter MLGW call from Matthew via cell phone, informing us that our services will be disconnected within 30 mins if bill was not paid immediately. The call was received from number (901) 544 - 6549 with name "Memphis Lights". I asked for Corporate number which he provided 1-877-310-4566, of course he answered the Corporate number as well. He was extremely agitated with me calling the number and made threaten remarks. I told him, we will most definitely report him to BBB.

I received a call from a hispanic man with a thick accent who said my Memphis Light (electric) bill was past due. He said his name was DeLa Cruz and his ID # was 3051, and that my payment was due or my electricity was going to be cut off.

I have this payment established online and I told him as much. I also told him I would call the company to verify his information and that I'd take care of the problem once I called the company and verified the information was correct.

He was ok with that and hung up saying goodbye.

We received two separate calls at our place of business saying MLGW would be here in 30 minutes to shut off our power if we do not make a payment over the phone. From the caller ID it appears to be the actual customer service number for MLGW.

Caller stated he was calling on behalf of MLGW and someone is on their way to cut off their utilities. I needed to call and make a payment to avoid interruption. The number he gave was 877-828-1690.

Person called in to say that if they did not receive money today our utilities would be cut off. We confirmed our payments were current through the automated MLGW system. We called them back at 1-800-689-2294 and they answered the phone MLGW and asked for our account number and I gave her my address, and asked her to confirm my account number and she said she would not, that I had to give her the account number. It was very noisy in the background, very loud automobile noise that sound like a 3rd world country, although her English was very good. We knew immediately this was a scam.

Susan with MLGW called and ask for the owner, saying she had a disconnect on the business if payment was not made. I said she wasn't in. So they left the number above and ext 2215. For some reason the call seemed odd. Also our bill was paid and received last month and new one is not due until Sept. 1.
