I met a person named Tracy Tam through an online Meetup group. I saw her several times in the group and even exchanged messages offline. Over time, she gained my trust through continued interaction. One day, she sent me a message claiming she was a single mother who had lost her job and was in urgent need of financial assistance. She told me that she would pay me back. Believing her story, I provided her with financial help. However, when I later checked in to see when she would repay the money, she completely stopped responding. Soon after, I noticed that: ? Her Meetup profile had disappeared (either deleted or deactivated). ? Her Venmo username had changed. ? She never responded to any follow-up messages. The Meetup profile listed her as Tracy Tam from Dublin, CA, but I am unsure if this was her real name. I do not know if this was an intentional scam, but I found the situation concerning, and I believe others should be aware. I encourage caution when providing financial assistance to people met online, even in trusted groups.

A scammer posted in a Meetup group offering a free old laptop. They asked for a shipping fee. After you paid, they demanded more money.
