McAfee IMPOSTER Reports & Reviews (150)

I called after receiving an email saying they were renewing my $299 yearly subscription, auto renewal allegedly. I told them do not since I haven’t used their service. He said he canceled it.

Two days later I received another email saying I was charged. I had already called my bank to make sure no charges would go through. I called again to them and the guy hung up on me after I told him I was reporting him.

See attached email. States a recurring order was auto charged for $470 for 5 months of McAfee. I don’t use any virus software since I don’t use my laptop.

I got an email saying I agreed to a subscription for 499.00/ month for two years! I don't know these people! An Indian person answered the phone, wouldn't say much! It's a scam! I better not lose any money!

Got an email from [email protected] that made it look like an invoice was coming from McAfee which is a computer security system. The invoice said it was going to auto renew my plan for $373.99 so I called the number on the fake invoice right away and someone with a foreign accent answered and right away I could tell they were not with this company and I explained that I got an invoice and I did not want it to auto renew the first thing he asked me was to go in front of my computer which I did not do and said to go to a website that started with anyd and I don’t remember the rest and then he said you’re being connected to a portal and you’ll get $100 a day to have sex with people in not such nice words. I then hung up and called back and asked if he could provide what company I was calling regarding and he tried to get me to say it first I then said that I was going to report him and he said to [censored] off and I hung up. This was on Nov 1, 2021

I opened an email from who I thought was Mcafee. It stated they withdrew 346.00 from my bank account. Once we called the imposter he gained full access to my desktop. He demanded my bank account password. I would not give him my information he changed the password on my desktop so I can not access it at all. He has full access to my desktop. He said he had trashed my Pc. I have contacted Mcafee who clarified that it was not there company.

If you want to Cancel your Subscription and claim your refund. Kindly call McAfee Customer Care: +1 877-341-2330

Called customer care to discuss email. I asked how they were going to charge my card because I didn't open an account and was told that they were associated with the Better Business Bureau and they had provided it to them. Ihave also called McAfee and they have assured me that the email is a scam.

I received the following text message on my phone:

“Dear McAfee Subscriber

Then I received a message from the same source that said:

The last message above I received twice. I have not used McAfee in over 10 years. I have certainly NOT re-ordered anything from them. The prices mentioned above are exorbitant. I tried calling the phone number. There was no answer. I received a similar message a few days ago that appeared to be from Geek Squad telling me I would be billed $348 within 48 hrs. I had not ordered anything from Geek Squad. I called the phone number. This phone number was: 1-919-892-8509 out of Oxford, NC. I told them I did not want the service. They said they would have to get manager approval to cancel. (This was the first red flag for me.). Then, they wanted me to log on to my computer. I told them no. They were insistent. (This was the second red flag for me.). I told them I thought they were a scam and that I was going to contact the BBB, and hung up. The messages above are similar, but the prices are much more expensive.

I received an email of an invoice from Together is Power - Customer Id: 524589492154 for an invoice of $499.00 for McAfee protection. They list "If you want to cancel this Order contact us our Support Team immediately at +1(844) 966-3806. I called and the man had an very strong Indian accent. He claimed that my cancellation would be released in 1 to 1-1/2 hours. I did tell him I was filing a complaint with you as soon as I was off the phone call with him, he gave his name as Jespin. He asked me what computer I had and I wouldn't tell him and he didn't know. He wanted to send me some form to fill out and I told him if he had my email he could send it. He got mad when I did this.

After talking with someone at bbb, I recognized the email address as not a real one. I did not do anything, just forwarded it to you all. When I forwarded the email. it left off the email address. I made a copy showing the fake email address.

I received an email from McAfee Network Firewall Security. I am certain it is a scam. I clicked on the email. Charging $499 to subscribe to McAfee computer protection. Their phone number is 805-517-4524. Email address [email protected]

Called the number to inquire about which computer the McAfee was installed on, as I didn't want to pay for renewal of the McAfee service. When I told them I wasn't at a computer they insisted I log on to fastconnect.com to allow them to remote into my computer to start the cancellation process. I knew allowing remote access to my computer was not an option, I hung up on them.

- Medford, OR, USA

I received an email thanking me for my annual payment of $449.96 for virus protection.

I called the phone number associated with the McAfee Customer service and was told to cancel and receive a refund since I did not sign up or authorize this transaction. He advised to to visit this web address and fill out the refund paperwork.

I did so. Suddenly then the person had gained remote access to my laptop. He then started accessing my banking account and changed the password to my microsoft login.

It then showed a transaction for $4500 taken from my banking account.

I have since had to freeze all banking accounts as well as take my computer in to be cleaned.

Sent email (attached) saying my Mcafee subscription was renewed, my bank account was charged, and provided a number to call for cancellation and refund.

1.I don't have Mcafee software and did not request renewal. My bank account has not been charged (yet)

2. Called the number and was instructed to download software so the agent could complete my refund request.

3. It was a program that would allow his control of my computer. At this point I did not allow and told him it was scam.

4. Called McAfee and found it was a scam and provided details.

5. Called scam number and told them they were reported to McAfee and relayed my total anger and disgust. Agent hung up.

- Brunson, SC, USA

Received an email informing me" that my McAfee Support membership was activated for next 3 year plan $499.99

is deducted from my registered account successfully, and my statement will apear in my account in nex 24 to 48 hours"

I did NOT request this. Email shows a Product ID:TTD665789MMOPT and states the transaction will be debited from checking account

- Canal Winchester, OH, USA

I received an email from them saying my credit card would be charged automatically to renew a subscription. So I called the business number and the guy wanted me to log onto my home computer but I refuse and he hung up on me and I looked up the number for McAfee’s customer service and they don’t have an account with any of my info. I gave them the info also so.

Got email being charged money free trial ran out. Called to cancel wanted personal info. Asked how they charged if they didn't have info. Called me stupid, foul language. Wasting his time and hung up.

- Tuscaloosa, AL, USA

I received an email notice that my McAfee total protection has been automatically renewed in the amount of $299.99. Since it was about time for my subscription to expire, I assumed it was legitimate. However, I decided that I did not want the subscription and replied to have the money refunded. I was speaking to a "representative" of McAfee and was instructed to allow them to access my computer by a "secure computer". Then, I was asked close out the "McAfee" site and open my bank's website and go to online banking. Thinking that I was secure at that point, I entered information to open an online account. The person on the phone instructing me began reading to me what was on my screen. At that point, I informed him that my wife was on the way to the bank to open the account but would return shortly. He told me to not "touch" my computer and to call him back when she returned. In the meantime, I googled "McAfee renewal scam" and found that this was indeed a phishing scam. I called my wife while she was at the bank and we set up fraud alerts and I contacted credit bureaus. Then, I called the number back and informed the scammer that I was aware of the scam and had contacted my attorney who would pursue legal action. At that point, the scammer hung up, confirming that it was a phishing scam.

This scammer was using the ScamPulse.com logo at the end of their e-mail to me. I have attached a copy of the e-mail (they were kind enough to attach a png file with the complete e-mail they sent to me), to you to review. I have not contacted them, nor do I intend on contacting them, as this is an obvious scam.

This is an email with an attached invoice supposedly from McAfee saying they are charging you $499 for their tech services. If you get this email don't contact their customer service about the charge because it's a SCAM. They want you to download an app that let's them remote into your account and then they want you fill out a form that gives all your personal info. Just contact your bank, like I did, and make them aware of an unauthorized charge.
