McAfee IMPOSTER Reports & Reviews (174)

- Puyallup, WA, USA

I received an email informing me that I owed $219.99 for a virus subscription that I did not even purchase. When I learned about it, I immediately asked my bank to put a stop payment on it to which they did and provided me a stop order payment number. The bank advised me to also contact the merchant to get a refund. On 5/24, I called McAfee at 1888-227-8349 and the representative I was working with walked me through a process to cancel the subscription and so I can get an immediate refund. It did not go through and I was transferred to another guy and he said, we will do the refund to a process called "gateway". I was completing the form and when we arrived at the question about how much, I proceeded to type 2, 1, then the system took over and typed in an amount of $2199.99 instead of $219.99 (the original payment charged to my bank account that I was trying to get a refund for). The rep then instructed me to reverse the payment so they can get the balance that was accidentally transferred to my account. The first thing he asked was to do transfer $500.00 through Zelle to a person by the name Andrea Grier, which I did. The rep then informed me that it was declined from their end. Then, he asked if I can make the transfer from my PayPal account, which I tried to do. When, I tried to make the transfer, Paypal started asking alot of questions like my driver's license, passport information, etc. I started to feel uncomfortable about all of this and told him so. He then informed me that this transfer was oversees and that's why they are asking all these questions. I told him, I was no longer going to proceed. So, he said, if I can purchase an appt card from the store and returned the partial balance that way. At this point, I was supposed to return $1980 back to them since I was only charged $219.99. There was no record of $1980 on my account. Because of all the inconveniences this transaction created, they were willing to forgo $400.00, making what I owe $1,580. There's no record of $1580 on my account either. I asked the rep how to return the extra money, and he kept asking me to purchase apple cards, I told him that this was outside of business transaction and I've never heard of a refund handled this way. There was never a record of the extra money that was accidentally transferred to my account anywhere on my checking account. I kept telling him that this was a fraud. The following day, my savings account which I had a balance of $1600+ all of sudden became, $600. I called the bank and they informed me that $1000 was transferred over to my checking to which I told the bank I did not make that transfer. I contacted the merchant to say that my bank was compromised and he asked me again to purchase apple cards to pay the refund which was never on my account to begin with, to which I told him, it appeared that you took my money from my account. When I told him that I was reporting and filing a complaint to Better Business, and was filing a fraud claim through my bank, he stopped calling. I couldn't reach him again.

Received invoice via email from McAfee 3x2rxulfu7 that said I would be charged for their service and if wanted to stop the direct charge to call 888-558-0475. Called and spoke with James Morgan. During the call before becoming aware of this being a scam I gave them access to my computer which I will take it to a computer tech to see if they still have access. Also before knowing this is a scam gave them my banking information which I am going to report to my bank when they open. I have already stopped my bank card.

My bank account showed an amount of $378.49 being withdrawn by McAffee called them and they were going to refund me $500.00. which I entered that sum I introvertly pressed $5000.00. So Allen wanted me to buy gift cards @ $500.00 each and send him the balances of $4500.00 (keeping the $500.00. All stores have a $500.00 limit per day - each time I went into a store he gave me instructions and NOT TO MENTION MCGAFEE and as in my email to you shows ea gift card - then he wanted me to go to Western Union and send the cash balance I had in cash to an individual in Vietnam

Email received indicating invoice needing paid with todays date for specified amount, I did not open the attachment. I called the personal phone number. He answered McAfee Invoicing, I said, this is phone fraud company XXX and he immediately hung up the phone. Phone# 503-447-2320

I placed a phone call to this company thinking I would get help with McAfee protection software since their web site advertises McAfee products. A gentleman by the name of Prakash answered the call and advised I needed to remove the McAfee app which I did. He then remoted into my computer and showed me how my computer had been infected. He advised that for either $799 USD for 5 years or $899 USD lifetime fee, I could get "advanced cleanup, remove junk filed, cache files, tracking cookies, remove errors and warnings, firewall protection on IP address, update drivers, anti-hacking software, McAfee total protection, human technical support, 2 helpline numbers, and free routine check up every 45-60 days." I was very leery so I looked up the actual support number for McAfee and the technician took good care of me and my computer. He cleaned up everything that the scammer had on my computer. This scam web site needs to be taken care of.

They sent an email concerning a transaction for mcafee renewal and to call an 800 number to dispute it. Then had you put a verification code into a website they sent you to, and asked to open my bank to see if the money refunded. By that point they took control of computer and transfered in too much. Said i had to buy gift cards to pay it back because they couldnt pull the money back out.

Person idetified as Flip Stronski left an email saying I needed to call to get a refund if I wanted to cancel my subscription. He had me get on my computer to fill out form and then said he made a huge mistake in the refund and tried to get me to obtain a apple gift card and send him the card number. By this time I finally realized I was scammed and he had taken over my computer. I am now locked out.

emailed me with a number to call and say that they are thrilled to confirm the activation of your new subscription. as part of our community, you now have access to premium services. Then I called the number that they left which is 1-888-745-9407. they asked me for an invoice number. in which I told them AT&T called me, this is how I know it was a scam when I called them they said if I want my money back they need my social and debit card number . When the whole time it was an Email from McAfee for $705.00 being billed to be in which I checked my debit card and didn't get billed that amount on 02-02-2024.

I RECEIVED A LEGITIMATE EMAIL REMINDER THAT MY MCAFEE SUBSCRIPTION WAS EXPIRING IN FEBRUARY. THEY APPARENTLY INTERCEPTED THIS EMAIL AND THE SCAM BEGAN. A FEW WEEKS BEFORE MY SUBSCRIPTION WAS DUE TO EXPIRE, THEY SENT ME AN EMAIL SAYING THEY HAD AUTO-RENEWED MY MCAFFEE AND CHARGED MY VISA $160.59. I CHECKED AND MY VISA HAD BEEN CHARGED. I THINK I CLICKED ON A LINK IN THE FAKE EMAIL AND WAS GIVEN A NUMBER TO CALL. WHEN I CALLED, THEY CLAIMED TO REFUND THE 160 TO MY VISA AND SAID THERE HAD BEEN A DATA BREACH AT MCAFEE AND THEY COULD FIX MY COMPUTER IF I WOULD GIVE THEM REMOTE ACCESS. I NAIVELY OKAYED THAT AND THEY SUPPOSEDLY INSTALLED A 379 DOLLAR MCAFEE PRODUCT GOOD FOR 3 YEARS. THEY HAD ME ON THE PHONE AND IN MY COMPUTER FOR OVER 2 HOURS AND I BECAME SUSPICIOUS. I HAVE ALL THE EMAILS THEY SENT AND AM INCLUDING THEM HERE.

WHILE ON THE PHONE, THE FIRST "HELPER" SAID HIS NAME WAS JOHN THORTON AT 1-833-357-0707 AND AT 1-888-672-0468. THE SECOND MAN SAID HIS NAME WAS JEREMY AT 888-672-0468, THAT THERE HAD BEEN A DATA BREECH AT MCAFFEE AND HE WOULD FIX MY COMPUTER AND INSTALL THE NEW SOFTWARE. HE GAVE ME A "MCAFEE DAFAULT PASSWORD" OF MCAFEE@123 AND GAVE ME ANOTHER NUMBER TO CALL...888-745-2291 AND A WEB SITE "[email protected]." AFTER I HUNG UP, THEY TRIED TO CONTACT ME TWICE FROM THE "0468" NUMBER TO "FINISH THE INSTALL." I DID NOT RESPOND OR GO TO THE SUPPOSED SUPPORT SITE. A GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWED A SCAM FOR QIKFOX AND MCAFEE AND MATCHED WHAT THEY HAD TOLD ME. THE CHARGE ON MY VISA WOULD BE FROM "QIKFOX" AND JINIGRAM, LLC.

I IMMEDIATELY UNPLUGGED MY DESKTOP, WENT TO THE BANK AND CHANGED MY ACCOUNT NUMBERS AND TOOK THE COMPUTER TO BEST BUY TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. I PAID CLOSE TO 200 DOLLARS TO HAVE A VIRUS REMOVED. WHEN I PLUGGED IT IN UPON COMPLETION OF THE REMOVAL, I SAW THAT QIKFOX HAD AN ICON ON MY START MENU AND SOFTWARE INSTALLED THAT I'VE BEEN UNABLE TO REMOVE. I WILL KEEP TRYING. I received an email about my McAfee membership which was due in December, which I paid. I received a notice from McAfee Security Alliance telling me my membership expires today 11/13 and will automatically renew for $403.44. I called the number they provided and told them I didn't sign up for anything and what information were they were going to use for automatic payment because I didn't have a debit card. I was told that it was going to come from my checking account and I told them I didn't authorize this. They asked if I wanted to cancel and when I said yes he asked if I was near my computer because he needed me to open up a browser. I told them I was not going to do that and I hung up.
