McAfee IMPOSTER Reports & Reviews (178)

I received an email, on 15 July 2022, that said it was an invoice for the purchase of 4 years antivirus protection from McAfee for the amt of $299.79. Stated below was a phone # for a help line for "if you have any questions about this order." I had NOT ordered this product and thought may someone might have made a fraudulent purchase with one of our cc #s. Curiously, the invoice did not have my name or a date of purchase (only the date the email was sent). I had not yet seen a charge in that amt in either bank account or the credit card. I thought maybe it hadn't processed yet. So, I called to say I did not made such a purchase. They seemed polite and professional......are first. I explained I had not made such a purchase. They asked for my name. I told them they could look it up by order# or invoice# and then they would know. They asked if such-and-such (a nickname I use but would not buy with) was my name. I said yes. They said they needed to send a refund/cancellation form thru a screen sharing program to process the cancellation/refund. I'd used screen sharing before with techs I knew to troubleshoot and fix my computer in the past. So that wasn't that suspicious, though I was beginning to feel uncomfortable. The form presented had a large header that sported huge ScamPulse.com Rated A+ on top. It asked for standard stuff - name, address, phone # , Bank and type of account. I protested. That's when they started to act rudely, but insisted they were going to help. When I saw a browser tab come up for my bank they said I should log in. I said you've got to be kidding. HELL NO!! But I noticed that the other cursor on the screen was selecting things. I immediately disconnected my computer and shut it down. When I went to get on it later to get the software out of the computer, it was locked. I couldn't get in. I tried to call Microsoft. Ended up going to their troubleshooting menu online. When I followed the instructions it brought me to a dialog box to put in a password. None of mine worked. The pw hint: CALL ALEX 804 999 9941. When I called the number. I was back with the people that messed up my computer. They promised that would unlock it if I went thru the process. I hung up. Disconnected and turned off the computer and called our computer geek nephew. He told us how to do a factory reset. It will wipe the slate clean and lots of info will be lost. I'm thankful most of it was backed up on an external hard drive prior to this incident (a great, even necessary thing to do if you haven't already!)

I spoke with McAfee and they said they were already made aware of this and that ANY email they would send would be from (domain)@mcafee.com ONLY. And there official # is (866) 622-3911. [take note]

My computer is resetting as I write this. Hopefully it will be ok.

These people are brilliant, clever, even genius. Think what the world could be if their talents were used for good, caring, positive, giving endeavors! But, they are masquerading, viral and pernicious. May they be damned for what they do!

I realize now they surely wanted to help....help themselves to my personal info and financials.

Thank G*d, I lost no money or personal info!

Everyone BEWARE!!

I received an email this morning about a subscription for McAfee stating that my antivirus has expired and that an automatic subscription fee has been charged on my account. There wasn't any charge on my card and so I decided to call them and attempt to cancel my order of course, because I didn't think that I had ever subscribed to this, and my current antivirus is not McAfee. I called the number provided and it rung for a decent amount of time before someone with a heavy accent answered the phone and the first warning came when he pronounced McAfee wrong. I said, "Hi I would like to cancel my subscription and remove the fee from my card because I do not use this service." The man then said okay and proceeded to ask me to get a note card and write down some information that I needed to type into my laptop regarding my IP address. As soon as he said that I was highly suspect of what was going on and I said out loud "I think this is fake" and the guy said "What?? This is not fake trust me you are speaking to McAfee about your subscription charge please trust me this isn't fake" and then I knew it was fake and restated myself and he hung up on me. I believe he was trying to get me to give him some sort of information that would allow him to actually charge me for the $499.99 charge that I was supposedly being charged. I don't think that a real call would go like that and I'm definitely sure they wouldn't hang up on me after I stated that I thought it was fake. I will provide an image of the email that was sent to me with my name and email blurred out. It seems to be a decent fake and the account looks legit besides the email address that it was sent from.

I received a letter from McAfee. I am questioning the mailing. Charging my credit card $299.99. I don't have McAfee. When I called they asked for my credit card number. I said I'm not stupid. He hung up on me. The McAfee logo looks like it was copied.

Received invoice for $488, saying it had been deducted from my checking account. I called the number listed to cancel my subscription. They said they would refund the money and wanted to me to download some apps so they could return the money. They weren't able to the first try so they tried something else and apparently got into my phone and I was stupid enough to let go to my banking app while on the phone and they transferred $1000 through Zelle. They gave me names and badge numbers, etc, and even a help desk number. When notified by my bank about the transfer, I immediately called them and they began a fraud investigation and cancelled all cards, accounts, etc. that may have been compromised.

They tried to scam my wife and I into buying McAfee

I believe these individuals work for McAfee. I trusted them back in Feb 2022 - I allowed them to access my PC, at that time they installed the software and everything was fine. I paid them $200 - the check was made out to Aleph Information Technologies the phone # they used were 207-506-3754 (but they’re able to disconnect and reconnect these phone #’s). I received a call from that # on 06/01/22, telling me McAfee server crashed and they need to remotely access my PC like first time to correct this, I agreed b/c he knew my checking account # & routing # which is listed on the check. He convinced me to trust him and I gave him access remotely to my PC everything was gibberish on my PC b/c I believe they changed the language instead of English to Indian/Pakistani which one of them told me he was from Pakistan b/c of his accent when I asked where he was from. He then told me a Mark will call me in a a few minutes. That person called and wanted me to access my bank account to refund me my $200. I refused b/c they remotely have access to my PC. He tried to convince me that he can’t see my info as I typed in my username/password. I refused to do so. Told him keep the money but restore my computer. He said I have to sign into my bank account and then it’ll ask me to accept or decline and then he can restore my pc. I said NO! Then he locked my PC. The 2nd person that locked my pc called from 707-300-3163 had an Indian accent. When I called that #, the person that answered didn’t know anything and denied he called me, it wasn’t him because he didn’t have an accent. I then called McAfee and explained to them my story, they said my purchase of the software is legit and it expires in 3 yrs., but that they never contact customers that customers contact them. They weren’t able to help me unlock my PC. I was fuming at this time called 207-506-3754 and said why did you locked me out of my PC. He hung up on me! But, that was after I told him I reported them to McAfee. Called again, it said that # doesn’t exist. Yet a few minutes later, he called me back and gave me the 4 digits password which did unlock my PC! Phew!!! So, today 06/06/22, I received a call from 808-444-4986. Did not pick up…left a voicemail message: this is Sam Williams from McAfee verification team your McAfee will be auto renewed call 808-444-4986. These scammers need to be caught and charged!

I received an email saying that my 2 year McAfee subscription had successfully been proceed for $323.44. When I called the number to cancel it I was told to download "TeamViewer" so they can take McAfee off my computer. I told him that I did not want him to have access to my screen. He said it was the only way to delete it. A popup from the ScamPulse.com came up on my screen and it asked for my name and address and which bank I used. I told him I was not going to give him my Bank account. He said I needed to open it to be sure the money was refunded. I told it was on a credit card and he can just credit the card. He said it was not possible. I asked for his name and ID. He said his name was Richard Parker #4402. I refused to open my bank. I told him I would open it on my phone and he said that it had to be on my computer. I asked to speak to a supervisor.....they were going to get back to me :) This is a scam to take over computer and get into bank accounts. Not sure if he was able to download malware or get passwords.

This scammer says they are renewing our virus protection (McAfee) for six years for $999.99. Says they will go ahead and charge our card if they do not hear from us. When you call they ask you to get onto your computer and pull up a particular page - - I did not do that and when I said something to the guy about it being a scam he started yelling at me and arguing, which clinched it for me.

An email by this company was sent to me requesting that I make a payment to a Protection Plant that I did not have. I called asking what name they have on file and they only have my first name and not my last. I asked if I can have their employee ID along with their first name and the man on the line got defensive. He asked why do I need that, and I let him know that I will call Better Business Bureau and see if this is legitimate. At this point the person hung up the phone and when I tried to call back it would not go through.

This company claimed to be part of McAffe fraud protection company. I never signed up for this plan and received an email stating I was charged $429.38. The site shows a number to call for "order review". When I called they stepped me through there process at one point I was not able to find the information to click on. After a brief hold they sent me a user name and password. When I put that in my mouse was controlled by someone else and got me to a consent form to cancel the plan. Once that was complete they wanted me so sign into my bank account and except the refund. At this point I knew something was up and told them, I feel someone has control of my computer as they reassured me that was not the case. So I told them before I do that I am restarting my computer. As I tried to do so, I would click to restart it and it would automatically disappear not allowing me to do so, so I told them I am gonna hard boot my computer and they immediately hung up. This is a scam and hope you can get this stopped, Thank you.

I wanted to report an email my husband received from McAfee Software. I think it's a scam. We do have McAfee. The email was sloppy. Their email is [email protected] It looks like they sent this email to 187 more people. Billing for service $299.99.Three years. Also billing $599.99. which was written out. They gave two amounts. We did not respond. This is not really McAfee. They are trying to impersonate McAfee Security. Their phone number is 830-828-1029. I'm sure this is a bogus number.

I contacted phone number on email, because the email stated money was going to be taken out of my account, for service render by McAfee. I was to contact phone number for refund of so call money being taken out of my account. When I contacted the individual I spoke to two different people. As the first person pretended to refund me, he hit a key higher than what I entered. That is when the scam began. The person pretended to be in trouble with his supervisor, if I did not help him get the money back. Never go and purchase gift cards and give the scammer the information off the cards. I learned a valuable lesson. They especially target Senior Citizens because we are more vulnerable.

Received an email disguised as being from McAfee, stating my subscription was ending or may have ended that day. Many grammar/capitalization errors, and the from addresses were funky. Also, two different unsubscribes - on in Las Vegas and one in NJ. Emailed wanted you to click to "protect now," and most likely was phishing for personal info, possibly CC/banking info. I did not click through.

Recevied an unwanted email for a company, that I do have have any computer products with, stating I was infected with viruses. The email was an impersonator pretending to be with the company Mcafee. The email came from: [email protected] and had a copied image of a real mcafee ad. There was no way to opt out of the scam email without clicking the image. The image led to an unsecure webpage: http://yournames.org.uk/rd/c13644kEcNZ24530081DLPv17INs116320phZd1300

I received an email including an attachment claiming to be an invoice for McAfee. I do not have McAfee nor have I purchased their products. I did confirm with McAfee that I do not have an account. Since the email is from a valid QuickBooks address (the address used to send invoices with QuickBooks) I called Intuit. Intuit confirmed that McAfee is not associated with QuckBooks and does not use their service to generate invoices.

I was tricked into buying giftcards. I did not send them the numbers, I figured it out prior to sending it. I supposedly talking to Garrett Smith and Mark Ferguson who was supposedly with Discover.

Receiving daily harassment/cyberstalking/phishing emails to my email address. Today's fradulant e-mail came from: [email protected] and was claiming that my McAfee virus program was expiring. I do not have a Mcafee virus program. I do believe this is a phishing/credit card luring scam perpetrated by the e-mail. The image in the e-mail ad appeared to be a screenshot of a legit Mcafee ad whereby the scammer screenshot the image of the ad, modified it to have a corrupt webpage link, and resent it. There was no way to opt out of the email without clicking the modified image. The modified image link, if clicked, led to an unsecure webpage: http://kingstonmaly.net/rd/c12736pSeUX24530081XebK17CVz118938ILfh1155

Received an email of a purchase for internet protection for $499.99, and that my checking account was the payer. I called my bank and they said that they showed no such charge, so I called the phone no. in the email to cancel the charge. When I called the person on line assured me that the purchase had been completed and that to get refunded I would need to give him control of my computer screen. I thought that his request was legitimate until I noted that the charge showing on my bank online was for a date 2 days in advance. I then received a form filled out for my refund in the amount of $500, and that I should type into the form $500. The amount shown on the form showed $5000, and was supposedly processed. The agent noted the apparent error, while showing me a bank balance that showed that $5000 had been transferred, and that it would have to rectified. He said he was in trouble as well as me for the error. He asked if there was a King Sooner's or Target in my neighborhood where I could purchase a store card for $4500 to rectify my supposed error. I then hung up and tried to reach my bank, being interrupted several times with the agent calling me back. The bank and I closed my checking account and froze all activity on the old account. Very disturbing!

An email was sent from McAfee, service that I did use several years ago. The mail was billing me for $399.99, I called the scammer number and they asked to access my computer. Their pretext was that they are an actually company that fights scamming. They had be fill out a form online which indicated that I would be refunded $399.99. Unfortunately, I let them access my computer, email, and my online banking. They fraudently moved $10,000 from my savings account to my checking, but were unable to access my checking account. I will never allow anyone to access by online banking account again!! I have changed the passwords to my banking account and will change my password for my email.

Previously, I had identified this same fraudently billing scam as scam on my rocketmail (Yahoo) account, but they sent me another email billing today. Please prevent these scammers from ever running their scams again!
