Opened a new business and received a second scam letter from the same address requesting money for “necessary” documents.

• Jul 29, 2023

Within a 2 weeks of establishing my business, HEW Online Ventures LLC, I received postal mail at my business address (the one registered with IRS) from this organization called LCPSS. LCPSS confronted me under the pretenses of being an official legal entity/agency, as it quoted labor laws (29 USC Sec. 666(1) & (29-USC Sec 2006). Furthermore, the verbiage contained within the correspondence prompted me to act urgently and pay $135 USD or pay a fine of $7000 USD. I felt imminent pressure to pay the fee or risk paying an unreasonable fine.

After reading forums to determine the legitimacy of the organization, some business owners directed those curious to the bottom of the correspondence where, in fine print, it states that 'LCPSS is a Non_Government publisher of copyrighted compliance poster compilations which are intended to assist employers in meeting their legal obligations under labor law posting regulations. If you are not 100% satisfied with this product, simply return it within 45 days for a full refund. (CA) See reverse for important additional information'.

I would like to upload some pictures of all printed materials they sent me (envelope, return envelope, double-sided letter), but am having trouble uploading it.

Got that same letter today in the mail. I was smart enough to google the address and then I looked up the fake business name. And by the way the return envelope was a P.O. Box address in Florida - with the Business Name as CPS. This business has three names: LCPSS, LCPS, and CPS.

They make an official sounding e-mail with a "record ID" and a "document fee" printed prominently at the top. They have in all caps "LABOR LAW COMPLIANCE NOTICE". Throughout the document they use scare tactics saying that businesses may have to pay 7,000 for not complying, etc. And then, if you read the fine print, they say "This offer serves as a solicitation and not to be intended as a bill due." But everything about this note is intended to look like a bill due. Many business owners are usually too busy to read every single fine print, and some might be giving these scammers their hard owned money. This needs to STOP!

Just incorporated our business a couple weeks ago and received this document. Scammers! I had already printed out all of our required poster updates before receiving this letter.

I received a "Labor Law Compliance Notice" letter in the mail. I thought it might be real because it used language that sounded legit. It had all my correct business information in the letter, but there were discrepancies with their company's information.
For instance:
(1) the company's name was LCPSS on some items and LCPS on others
(2) address on letter and letter envelope was CA...address on return envelope was FL
When I looked further into their company, I realized they were actually a scam.

Days after I incoporated my small business, I received a phony letter, from a company that says they make Labor Law posters that I need to post in my place of business. They asked me for $125, saying that if I don't buy/hang their poster in my place of business, the government will fine me $7000.

This letter had NO phone number, NO website, and their company name changed. Sometimes it was "LCPSS," other times it was "LCPS".

Their address at the top of the page doesn't match the address on the envelope they supplied.

SCAMMERS!

Ann
They wanted $79.25 at first, then &125.00. i wasnt fooled. Found they are not government affliated, so i had nothing to worry about and not a dime for them. I researched them and confirmed my suspicions. Be careful out there. Confirm legality before sending money.

I received a "time sensitive" letter in the mail stating that I needed to have labor law compliance posters for my new corporation and that failure to comply within a certain amount of time would result in "fines in excess of $7000." It was not until after I sent my payment of $125, that I realized this was a scam; I never received the posters I paid for. It says on the envelope "non-government agency". This company and others are extremely predatory. Read the fine print before making any payments! This time is especially critical for small business owners as we seek to thrive in a pandemic; be careful everyone.

I received a letter from LCPSS about needing a labor law poster and if I did not respond and pay by 4/1/2021 I could be facing a $7,000 fine. That didn’t seem right to me and I had just received another scam letter from another company so I was on high alert. I looked up the LCPSS compliance notice and came across this page. So happy I did my research and others were able to report similar experiences.

Received a letter stating a need to display labor law posters or receive a $7000 fine. Letter is presented like a letter from a government agency/tax document with a "respond by" date and information about my business registration.

At the very bottom on the back of the letter there is a "disclaimer" stating that this is not from the government and that they are private business and you can actually obtain the posters free of charge from the government.

Received it too. The user "Defiant" above says they are legal. However, I don't think they are.

1. They say that this putting a poster in my office (my house, in this case, single-member) is a FEDERAL LAW REQUIREMENT. Is this true?
2. They pretend to be in a Sacramento address, but they require money to be sent to a PO Box in Florida.

Anyway, I'm going to throw in into the trash.

While this company is 100% predatory, and charging $125 for a piece of laminated paper is absolute robbery, note that LCPSS isn't doing anything illegal: they call their Labor-Law-Compliance Poster a "product" (which no government agency would ever do), and the back of their flier states is bold letters, "LCPSS is a NON-GOVERNMENT publisher of posters".

I'm writing this to encourage other small business owners to not be intimidated and to look at the "fine print" of ANY letter mailed to their business. Though they may try to hide it, predatory companies like LCPSS are required by law to state that they're a for-profit business (or be subject to federal investigation), so you can usually spot something immediately by looking over the letter from top to bottom before signing anything or writing any checks.

I RECEIVED ONE AS WELL DEMANDING $125.00 OR THAT I WOULD END UP PAYING A FINE OF 7,000 LATER. NO PHONE NUMBER. CHECKED THE NAME ON THE INTERNET. UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING CONCRETE THAT VALIDATES IT. I JUST MARKED IT ON THE ENVELOPE AS A SCAM AND WILL SHOW MY ATTORNEY. THANK GOD I RESEARCHED IT FIRST.
