Type of a scam Healthcare/Medicaid/Medicare

This company is calling physician's office multiple times in one day and sending forms by fax requesting these be filled out by the provider to order back brace, wrist orthotic and knee brace for same patient. Also requesting office notes. Patient states he has not requested these items. Physician did not order. Call backs to listed phone number "not in service".

I work for a Doctors office. We received a fax on behalf of a patient for a request for a knee and back brace. This was an urgent request . The patient never requested it and she keeps getting calls from the health department She was initially told that this was free from medicare. I reached out to the company by phone as I had questions about this fax. It just ring busy. I really think this is a scam. The scary part is they have her name address phone number date of birth and her medicare number.

We received an order requesting the doctor's signature and diagnosis for both a knee brace & ankle brace. The order also included the patient's name, date of birth, address, phone number, and Medicare ID number. We didn't see anything on the patient's chart that would the patient needing either type of brace. We contacted the patient to find out whether or not this was something that she requested. The patient stated that she never requested either brace & when she contacted the company that was requesting these orders, they threatened to show up to her home & told her that it wasn't her choice in whether or not the order was signed by the doctor. The company contacted our office days later to follow up on the status of the order. We advised them that the patient did not request either brace, so our doctor would not sign the order. They apologized for the inconvenience and hung up. Hours later, we received another order for a completely different patient that also has never had a issue that requires a knee brace.
