Scam Email

I got an email through my school stating that someone was offering a position for $450 a week for simple tasks. I filled out a google docs giving basic info and then got an email a couple days later confirming my position. The email stated job duties and wanted me to send them my bank name and if i knew how to set up a direct deposit because he was going to send me a travelers check for the 1st task. He also stated that he was in Australia and wouldn’t be able to meet until the end of next month. I realized it was a scam after reading the email and I don’t think any of my information was compromised.

Hello, how soon was this, because I got reached out by a Jason Fernandez guy that also said he was in Australia till the 28th of the month, and it was $550 weekly allowance and the "First Task" was to buy toys for 3 orphanages using a cashier check he would give me. As soon as I started mentioning if this was a scam, it got harder and harder to get information from them.

The scammer sent me an email of an application from what seemed to be a legitimate person working for a legitimate company (more than likely from a hijacked email). The scammer presented himself/herself as Jason Fernandez, a private investor or something. Stated that he/she was working overseas in Australia. Offered me $450 a week and a flexible schedule. Sent me a check online, stating that he couldn't mail a real one due to the pandemic. The scammer contacted my cell phone number (texting only), so I replied stating that I could not cash the check. He/she then offered me a different method, involving purchasing some iTunes gift cards. I told him/her I would try at some point, and then ended contact with him/her after sending them a text at what would have been the middle of the night in Australia. Thankfully, to my knowledge, no personal account information of mine was compromised.
