I received a voice mail message at 3:35 pm on my cell phone while at work. I waited until after 5 pm to listen to the voice mail. The message indicated that I was being charged with tax fraud, that I had been notified 6 months ago concerning this and if I wanted to have the arrest warrant in my name attended to, I needed to call 1-443-465-7397. I called that number and a man with a middle eastern accent told me he was Steven Osborn, badge #230370 with the IRS, that my case number was 6331H, and that I was being charged with tax evasion/fraud for incorrect calculations on my tax returns for the years 2012-2016. The total charges were $4,992.00 and that in order from being arrested, I needed to prove I could pay the amount in question. I asked what that might be; Steven asked where was the money I could use to pay this amount - checking or savings account, and then was told that I needed to purchase an Electronic Tax Payment Card in the amount of the charges and that an IRS representative would pick it up at my home. They had my address. I stated that I had not filed an individual tax return in almost 30 years and was not going to give him my personal checking or savings account information. He got agitated and said he was putting his supervisor on the line. I then talked to Neil Foster, badge #78735 with the IRS and he repeated much the same information as Steven. I asked about contacting my accountant and lawyer, and Neil said I'd be able to do that once arrested unless I wanted to resolve this situation immediately. I asked how we can do that and he also mentioned the Electronic Tax Payment Card. I told him since it was after 5, I would not be able to go to my bank or local government office to get one and he said I'd be able to get one using my debit card. I told him I do not have a debit card. Neil then asked if I had an Apple Store nearby. I said no, and he responded that that was true, the closest one from my zip code was 76 miles away. Then he asked if there was a Best Buy where I was. I said yes, but that I didn't realize that Best Buy offered such service. He suggested that I drive there, keeping him on the line on speaker, and to let him know when I was in the parking lot. I asked what do I do if I should loose the call, did he have a number where I could call him back and he gave me the 800-829-1041. So I drove around my place of work a couple times then told him I was in the Best Buy parking lot. He then asked me to write down the following instructions: in place of the Electronic Tax Payment Card, I was to purchase a Best Buy Gift card in the amount mentioned earlier and once I have the card in hand, I was to expect an IRS agent at my house the next morning to pick up.
At this point I got fed up with the game and told him he was full of _____ and that the IRS does not take retail gift cards as payment and that I was calling the police. I then hung up and proceeded to call my husband to see if he had received the same call. While leaving a message for my husband to call me, 911 called me. I inadvertently hung up on 911, but answered the second time they called. A man named Steve Williams with the FBI was on the line and that he had been notified by the IRS that I had hung up on them. I told him that he was not with the FBI and that he was full of _____ and that I was once again, calling the police. Upon hanging up, I called 911 and told the operator about the phone call and he said to not answer if they call again and to not give out any personal information. I agreed.
What concerns me is them calling me via 911!

The caller stated he was with the IRS and I would be arrested if I didn't return the call. Shortly after I received the first phone call from the IRS, a second call was received, however the caller had a heavy accent and I couldn't understand what was stated.

Called by phone, left message stating there were 4cases against me by the IRS. Asked to verify name and address. I gave my name, but, they(male with Indian type accent) wanted my address. Only gave them NC but he wanted me to spell it. I told him that he was in the US and didn't know how to spell Carolina? He asked me a question and I couldn't understand him and when he said it again, I said "yes", with an attitude and he hung up.

This is the voicemail left - "Under custody by the local police as there are serious allegations pressed on your name at this moment we would request you to get back to us so that we can discuss about this case before taking any legal action against you the number to reach us is 718-819-9895 I repeat" and then the call ends. I called back and they hung up after saying "Talk to me". I called back again and there's someone on the line, but they don't say anything until you say something. He asks if this is the first time calling the IRS and when I say yes, he tells me there's no need to lie to him. Then he asks when I received the voicemail and says his information concludes this is not the first time I've called and again, there's no need to lie to him. I hung up!

Call received from the above number stating IRS issued arrest warrant. This is purely a scam. IRS will not call you for any tax matters, they will first send you a registered mail, and ask you to respond within a specified period of time. Never call back to any such scammers!
