A man named Gabriel Scott reached out to me via a job listing on ziprecruiter.com for a "Entry Level Training Project-Support" position. After emailing back and forth, we set up a phone interview. On the phone interview, Mr. Scott was very ambiguous about the position, citing NDAs with the company I would be hired to after training with Discern-LLC. Mr. Scott described the position as 11 weeks of paid training followed by a guaranteed position offering $80,000/year plus benefits with an unnamed company in Parsippany, NJ. The interview then moved into standard interview questions, all the while Mr. Scott continuously mentioned that he loved my resume and believed I would be a good fit. Mr. Scott described the hiring process, stating that after the initial interview they would require a background check before proceeding with a second phone interview, zoom interview, and finally an in-person meeting. At the end of the interview, when I asked for more information about the company, Mr. Scott tried to avoid the questions. I asked about the company founders, which he said was private and he could not share. When I pointed out the irony of asking potential employees at a security training company to provide personal information without knowing who they would work for or more information about Discern-LLC, I was immediately told we were not a good fit and would not be moving forward with the hiring process. The entire interview feels like a scam to have potential employees provide personal information to be used for identity theft.
