Type of a scam Utility

had message on answering service saying Direct TV was offering a discount for existing accounts. Call 888-334-0667 to receive the discount. They used language that matches the real company. Did not ask for any account number of personal information. They only used my telephone number to verify account. Sounded very real. Instructed me to purchase an e-bay gift card for $300.00 to make an advanced payment on my account and my monthly bill would only be $99.99 per month for the next 2 years. I was to call customer service at 888-208-1827 ext 1 and give the representative the promotion code of DTV711-R32 and the information off the gift card to make my payment.

got a call said it was direct tv/att going to combine my bill. i had to put money on credit card. $300. money lost. i told them sounded like a scam they said they would add all premium channels. within 15 minutes i did have all premium channels. so i believed it. BUT ITS A SCAM! THEIR NUMBER IS STILL WORKING TOO...BUT THEY HAVE BLOCKED ME. I HAVE A TEXT TOO.

I received a call from an unknown number claiming to be Direct TV and they said that I had been chosen to receive a discount on my monthly bill. They said Direct TV has partnered with Ebay and if I could pay the first four months in advance ($299.96) with an Ebay gift card that my bill for months 5-24 would only be $75.00. They new my address and some other personal information. I did not give any additional information. The number they gave me to call for "Promotional Billing" was 1-888-588-8012. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he said his name was "Ben Thomas" and his employee ID was "Ben-021".

I immediately called Direct TV and asked about the promotion and they informed me that it was a scam. I was also informed that they do not have dashes in their employee IDs.
