An internet search for "baby stroller wagons" returned the apparently fake Costco Affiliate website as sponsored and supposedly verified search result. The website has all sorts of apparent security verifications, and an https:// address. When I visited the website, it had all sorts of high-pressure tactics like "flash sale expiring in 4 minutes" and "low stock" and "400 purchased today" ...and being a sleep-deprived mom of two small children after a very long and stressful day, I was just excited to finally find a stroller wagon that we could afford after looking for weeks and missing out on several FB marketplace used sales, and my scam-radar was just not up to normal par. I purchased the stroller for an apparent steal, just shy of $60 for a product that normally retails in the $400-600 range...admittedly too good to be true, but from what I thought was a legitimate Costco Affiliate link. However, I started seeing red flags too little too late. For example, there was no option to purchase using my PayPal account. They didn't charge sales tax or shipping. There was no order confirmation number, although a suspicious "order confirmation" email with no real information that my Gmail account flagged as suspicious. The "About Us" tab from the company website along with other website pages contains spelling errors and text and images that appear stolen from an actual Costco webpage. At this point I had already completed the transaction, having handed over my credit card information, name, home address, email and phone number and having just a heavy feeling of dread and shame. I searched the Web address and site name for reported scans and ran the url through a verification website, which returned a low trust score. I put a freeze on my credit card and reported the charge, and signed up for identity fraud monitoring. Now I'm doing what I can to report the site.
