Cooper Hoffman and Klein identified themselves as being a debt collector/law firm in Texas (according to the ScamPulse.com they are located in Virginia), representing Check N Go. On a recent occasion, they had a man call from a phone number belonging to the Wayne County Clerks Office in Detroit, MI, claiming to need my address to serve me with a lawsuit, but he didn't identify himself and left the toll free phone number to Cooper Hoffman and Klein. I have the voicemail message. I contacted the Wayne County Clerks Office in Detroit, MI, who in turn contacted the authorities because their phone number and office name was being misrepresented by Cooper Hoffman and Klein. I'm in a debt consolidation program and a representative from the program contacted Cooper Hoffman and Klein, at the same phone number they left while pretending to be from the Wayne County Clerks Office in Detroit, MI, to obtain information and was told that they will not accept any payments from anyone (including my debt consolidation program) unless they are made with a credit card. Even if the debt is legitimate, it's illegal to demand payment solely by credit card. By refusing to work with my debt consolidation program I believe an individual, or company, is posing as a collection agency and is running a scam using information obtained from a debt.
