I received a phone call from Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Callers name was David Robber. He was going to help me with my financial difficulty. I did not give any personal information. I pressed number one and reached an automated line. When I call the number back I get a busy signal. Their phone number is 646-693-4110.

Agent Brett Maurer from Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, he called to tell me I had won a prize. He wanted $900 for a $450,000 prize. The $900 was to insure the money so it could clear customs. I think he got my name from my entry in Publishers Clearinghouse.

I'm 80 years old. I received a book in the mail, like a contest, you fill out a book with squares and send it in. Then John Pinkerton called, he said he was with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and said do you remember filling out a book. He said I won $750,000.The ticket I have is travel, a free trip to Las Vegas, NV. Their number is 202-655-3760. I was crying with joy. In order to get the money, which we will bring to your house, you have to pay $7500 for some kind of insurance to get the money. I told him I don't have any money. So he said, $3000. I said no. He called back, and said for a $1000 we'll release your money. He asked me if I was married or lived alone. He told me that when the IRS comes around you'll have to fill out a W30 tax form. He said he would refund the thousand dollars.

A guy called and said his name was Paul Jacobs - Federal Agent. Has an ethnic accent (Mexican or Indian)...he said my sister owed money. My sister is a senior citizen. When I asked for him, a guy said he was in a meeting and he asked for my name. I told him I wasn't giving him my name and asked when Paul would be available to talk---he put me on hold. A second later "Paul" gets on the phone and states his name - I said you don't sound like a "Paul Jacobs." He asked for my name and I told him I wasn't telling him and wanted to know what kind of agent he was and what kind of business the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was and he got really belligerent and told me that perhaps I should do my research and I said why when you called me? I said you are a scammer and perhaps you should stop calling here. He hung up on me. If you google the number it is located in Kansas, north of Dearing, and it shows a location at the Salvation Army Lighthouse. Their phone number is 855-593-0089 ext.101

I received a check in the mail with an attached letter that I overpaid for student loan recurring annual charges from July 21, 2011 thru September 11, 2015. The check amount is $139.98, the check # is 906193 drawn on The Huntington National Bank. After contacting the phone number listed, and spoke with "Marabelle" I was advised that they had previously mailed a check to me at an address that I never ever lived before and this check is now a duplicate of that which was previously mailed. She asked me for the check number, which I gave her and she told me the amount of the check and she had my name and phone number. She further stated that the check had to be cashed or deposited by June 11, 2017. The letter is signed by Richard Cordray, Director. The check is signed by Brandon L (unable to identify the last name). I just had an uneasy feeling about this check and therefore will not be cashing or depositing this fraudulent check. Thank you for your assistance.

I received a call from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in Dallas Texas (according to the phone message). They said someone at Green Airport in Warwick RI contacted them about an unclaimed package from a sweepstakes I had won and that I needed to call 214-256-4473 to get more information and claim my prize. I have not returned the call because I suspect it is a scam, but when I google Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, it does come up as a government agency so I am unsure. Do you have any information on this? Is it safe for me to return the call? This is not the first time they have called, but this most recent time they did leave more information regarding an airport package that led to the investigation, which is why they are calling me about "claiming my package".

In answering the question below - did the scammer take money? - I have not given them the chance to so the answer at this time would be no, though I suspect if I call, they may be asking for money.

A letter with attached check stating it is from a settlement and refund from when you paid for a bad-check diversion program from National Corrective Group, Inc. See Attached letter & check.
