Said I was going to be sued for a debt that was 15 years old. Statute of limitations on any debt is a max of 6 years unless ordered by a court, then it can be 20 years. Wanted me to settle the debt with them over the phone immediately to prevent legal actions.

Received a voicemail advising that someone associated with my address/number was being served. Told I would violate 18 USC 1501 if I did not respond. I called back approximately 8 times trying to get additional information. Of the 8 calls I placed I was hung up every time. Once, after advising was an attorney, I was immediately hung up on. I was also provided with conflicting information such as the firm name (Pennington Associates v Kauffman Associates), whether there was a physical business address (one person gave me one, several others refused or hung up), and multiple phone numbers.

They said I had a debt and needed to collect it or they would put a lien on my property. I negotiated an settlement of $15,000 but I had doubts their legitimacy. So I researched they email address and didn't provide them with my bank account information.
