Canadian Cash Awards Reports & Reviews (6)

Canadian cash awards is making it's rounds again.

I humored the guy on the phone for a bit. Gave him no info. But he wanted me to go to walmart and get a $25 joker visa gift card while he was on the phone with me. Told him I needed to shower and get ready first and to call me back in 30 mins. He called back over and over cause I kept rejecting his calls.
I have since set my phone to reject all private calls cause it was getting a little much.
So, during that 30 mins, I did a search and found it was a scam. Boooo

A caller from Jamaica identified himself as David Jackson with a story similar to the one above. I (actually my wife - I answered her phone) had won $2.5 million dollars (!) and all I had to do was go to Walmart and buy a Vanilla Gift Card for $300 (to cover delivery costs). At that point, I pointed out the inconsistency of the story and the line went dead. I called him back (it really was a Jamaican number) and we had an interesting conversation in which he actually admitted it was a scam. That was a first.

I got a call from a David Bernard. Said I won $30.000 because I pay my bills on time. Already knew my address. Asked me if I wanted to and camera crew to come. Told me to tell him the name of my bank so he can escort me to cash my cashiers check. I said I don’t need an escort. I waited a bit and I felt this voice inside saying hang up. If its to good to be true it usually is. I hung up he called me back. I said I’m not interested in your scam and you should be ashamed of yourself.

I have had 3 different people call and say they are from Candian cash Awards and I have won 2 million dollars and a brand new Mercedes Bens. All that I have to do to claim my prize is pay 1% of the total cash value of the money and car to them. The last gentlemen said his name was John Parker. When I asked how I won the prize as I did not remember signing up for anything and he said my phone number was randomly picked. He did attempt to get address information so that they could deliver the car and money but I did not give it to him.

This instance is very similar to the one reported Sep 9, 2020. Man identified himself as Robert Bernard with Canadian Cash Awards. He has been calling my elderly mother saying she won several million dollars, and that she could have been entered through Reader's Digest, Publisher's Clearinghouse, shopping at Walmart, Walgreens, or other common stores. She said he called 3 times, and she finally asked him for his name and phone number so she could have her kids check this out. I called him. He was very personable and tried hard to convince me that this was legit. He had slick answers for all my questions. Red flags:

1. Vague about how she "won."

2. Sounded very young, but said he had been doing this for 40 years.

3. Sounds of wind, other voices, and roosters crowing in the background. (Yes, roosters)

4. Had a mild accent which he was carefully trying to override, which isn't a conclusive thing, but many scam callers do.

5. Repeatedly assured me that this was legit. "You can believe me. I wouldn't mislead you."

6. Asked where he was, he told me Canada, then after a few beats, Toronto, but that he really wasn't supposed to tell me that.

7. Asked why he was using a Las Vegas phone number, he said is was a randomized exchange to protect the identities of their winners. But I called him back at the same number, got a message, and he called me back on the same number. Twice, as I tried to touch base with him.

I'm glad we didn't get to the point the Sep.9 person did, where they were asking for money to pay the insurance!

Smooth operators. Beware!

A man claiming to be Donny Jackson from Canadian Cash Awards called to say I had been randomly selected to win 2.8 Million Dollars to be collected at the Golden Nugget Cacino in Las Vegas. The number to call was 702-357-4005 and they work with the government of Canada to make it possible for me to collect this money. Sounded fishy to me. He called with an unavailable number on the call display. If I wanted to have it delivered to me I would need to pay for the shipping. I didn't ask how much.
